Hey folks, I am going to Montreal this Sunday for the F1 race. This is my first time and I think I need some advice.
1) Can I take liquor/beer there? or food? (heard food there isn't that great)
2) Can you actually see cars if you are in the general admission area? Is there a better place we can sit to take photos?
3) first off, can you even sit in the General admission area?
4) Are there any happening places late that night that we don't want to miss?

thanks a lot!!!!!

1) I remember seeing people bringing their own coolers with beer and such. So I'm sure it's OK. Food is meh, expect hot dogs, burgers, pizza... along those lines. AND at really marked up prices. Bottle of water was 5 bucks or something
2) Get there early, U may or may not find a 'good' spot. A lot of people get general admission, they camp out on the hills between the rafters. It's definitely YMMV
4) It's race weekend.... There's always something going down... Head downtown (St. Catherines) and just cruise. The subway is free for race ticket holders

Have fun!

1) Yes you can, just try and keep it subtle don't brnig a pic-nic lol
2) I don't have personal experience but I'm told it's feasible.
3) Yes AFAIK.
4) It's Grand Prix weekend like the above poster said. If you want to see cars or activities, head downtwon (on Crescent street) and you'll see lots of festivities (DJs, cars everywhere, fashion shows, what have you). As someone on RFD posted, if you haven't seen it yet, the Tumbler from the Dark Knight will be exposed this weekend.

Expect to pay a lot more because it's F1.

On St-Laurent, they will sell a bottle of vodka 400$ instead of 200$.

Don't forget about the student protests. They said they wanted to disrupt the Grand Prix. I don't know what that means exactly, but they'll probably try to suck the joy from it and interfere. Just get ready to try avoid them?

I'd suggest to bring a taser to defend yourself. I'm wondering if they have someone knowledgeable in English to actually write what they are protesting about, then again I wouldn't be too surprised if they passed it out in french to the visitors.

Are you even allowed to have one on your person?

1. yes. we brought a cooler with food, water and beer cans 2 years ago
2. Not really, but it depends how early you get there and what spot. I recommend the Senna corner in front of the grandstands, but it fills fast.
3. Yes, the are I described above is a grass covered hill
4. lol.....EVERYTHING is happenning F1 weekend, especially Sat night. Crescent street or St Laurent.

5. bring ear plugs...the foam ones work fine.
6. have fun!

Is this true? I'm visiting from out of town and didn't see this on the STM website. Are the busses free as well? I was planning on buying the 3day tourist pass for STM.

Just went yesterday, no issues at all with protesters. Funny thing that I read so far in the news is that most of the arrests so far aren't students but activities (like the Occupy people). But yeah, no issues so far with protesters at all, I didn't even notice they were there. People blow things out of proportion  Got a few pictures from Crescent festivities so I'll post later after work! :D

WHO IS BROADCASTING THE RACE ?!?! On TSN there is nothing but soccer, the race is only a rerun on TSN2 at 6pm. But what about LIVE coverage?

EDIT: I found out, it is on CTV.
