Hey guys,

In the spirit of the diverse user base we have on this forum, I felt it would be helpful to share what it is that makes you love your job. Feel free to share what your chosen job/career is, what got you into it, why you stay, what are the highlights and so on!

I voted for loved the tasks. While I don't do physical labor at my job, it's not a regular "sit in" office job either. I'll usually sit in, design a product (or system or whatever the client wants), then start collecting things ot make various test models, either to do form development or user/feature testing. It's a lot of fun then to bring home the stuff and ask random people to try whatever it is I've made and get feedback from them  IMO best part of my job, I can interact with peolpe not in my field to get relevant information/data.

I interpreted this more as "what I love about my job" rather than "I love my job". I feel like one can "love" or "like" certain aspects of their job without being enamoured with the entire package. I currently fall in that category, always have, and assume I always will. Most companies I've been with excel in certain areas and lag in others. For example, some have a great culture, but the work is not stimulating, others are the opposite. What's worse, is I find my tastes change over time. If I'm solving the same problems for too long, I get bored and need different problems to stimulate me. In that way, a job I like can turn into a job and I don't like that much, without the job itself having changed.

Anyway, at my current position (medical device industry), I "love" (strong word, IMHO) being able to work on novel technology (e.g. knowing that no one else or very few others are solving these same problems), see that technology become adopted and knowing that adoption of that technology has concrete, tangible positive outcomes for people. One of the reasons I took my engineering skills into the medical field is knowing that my work affects the lives of others in a positive way. I could easily, for example, earn a lot more than I do by working in the finance or military industries, but while compensation is obviously part of everyone's motivation, I would find it difficult to work in an industry where I'm having a non-tangible effect (e.g. working at a hedge fund) or tangible negative effect (designing military weapons) on the population at large. These are just my views. I'm not saying no one should work for the military or in finance or that everyone has to work in the medical field; that's ludicrous. I'm just saying that at this point in time, for me, in my life, what I achieve with my work (e.g. my "legacy") is important to me.

Well, I either love my current job, or know that my contract will be ending shortly. There is no downside to this arrangement.

Nice to see special category for Mark77.

I love my job because of the right mixture of good work (tasks), good people, good pay, good career progression.
I think you need 1 more category for this

+1....I like nothing but money when it comes to job. I wouldn't miss a thing once I'm gone.

+1....I like nothing but money when it comes to job. I wouldn't miss a thing once I'm gone.Well I like my regular coworkers too... But there is some tension between two of them which makes it a bit uncomfortable for me sometimes. I don't want to meddle so I keep quiet about some of the complaints I hear from one about the other but I wish they would just be more forthcoming to each other...

Here is why I love my job: I am a web and mobile developer
- Flexible start time
- Flexible leave time
- 6.5 hours work days.
- office is 8 minute bike ride from my appartement
- 3 weeks vacation (with option of taking extra non paid vacation)
- Most employees like each other so no bs office politics. Only 1 person everyone mutally dislikes and she now works from home.
- Can work from home whenever I want (but like the social aspect of the office so don't do it too often)
- Decent pay (not great, but for 6.5 hour work days who cares)
- Rarely any deadlines (and if they are, they are reasonable)
- No Stress
- No Dress Code (Every day is casual friday)
- Constantly working on new and interesting projects
- Freedom to play with new technology.. allowed to use whatever tech we want and allowed the free time to learn the tech.. If it doesn't work out, no biggie.
- No overtime (except for very odd occasion, and if we ever work on a weekend (even if it is only 1 or 2 hours) we are allowed to take 1 day off of our choosing during the next week, or when the project is over. (Obviously this has to be approved overtime)

I could easliy go out and get a job tomorrow that would pay me 15-20k more per year, but honestly, the 32.5 hour weeks, stress free environment with plenty of freedom is easily worth 15k to me.
The only minor complaint I have is that our boss seems to have multiple personality disorder.. once day he can be extremely nice, the next day he is a complete *******. But when on average I see him once every 2 weeks no big deal. Very minor complaint.
