Besides Frankie Tomatto's (Italian?) and Spoon & Fork (Thai and something), are there AYCE restaurants offering other cuisines? TIA.

There are a few vegetarian Indian AYCE places scattered around Scarborough, Copacabana on Bloor is a Brazilian AYCE place. There is/was an AYCE Vietnamese place on Midland/Sheppard.

Town and Country (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/town-and-country-market-fresh-buffet-toronto) is still around. They're not bad. Same with Tucker's Marketplace (http://www.tuckersmarketplace.ca/location.html?onEnterFrame=%5Btype+Function%5D). They both serve 'Canadian' food (don't know how else to describe it).

tandoori flame out in brampton is pretty good. the host in markham has a decent lunch buffet.
the vietnamese ayce at sheppard and midland...was that rex saigon? if so, i'm pretty sure it closed down a while ago and the space was taken over by gourmet malaysia.

These visitors are coming from Taiwan by the way. Hopefully they will like the smorgasbord here in the GTA.

i'm thinking about checking out the Jerusalem Restaurant this weekend.
i've drove by the place probably at least 5000 times. it's about time.
the reviews seem alright. actually pretty decent reviews for a buffet.

Just curious...if you have visitors, why would you take them to a buffet/ayce? In general, they are not really very good.

We will take them to a few Chinese/Cantonese sit down meals (as well as dimsum places; if you look at my other posts last night, I've blasted my questions away) as well but there is only so much I can do to loosen the purse strings and this is RFD after all. I want to limit the non-RFD damage, that's all.
AYCE wins the value for money proposition especially with a couple of my nephews visiting. Ordering ala carte at the same establishments don't make sense.

Depends what's the relationship betweeen you and your vistors. If you have a mixed age crowd, AYCE pretty good choice.
I had vistors from Taiwan and they were good with buffet. They actually loved it because it's easier to feed the kids.
We went to sushi (of course), Korean table cooking, Indian, Jersualem, and yeah, Frankie Tomato.
Frankie Tomato was a hit. Indian and Jersualem was a 'meh'. Sushi...well, you can't go wrong with this one
I find it's harder for my relatives to enjoy food they don't normall eat. I don't find Indian spicy nor do I find Jersualem sour but they complian...

Frankie got seriously worse last couple of years. I've been there circa 2010 and they were OK. Not gourmet fare, mind you, but OK. However, my visit last winter was a bitter disappointment. Food was cheap and tasteless.
168 Sushi is "Oriental" AYCE. Mostly Korean/Japanese, with several Chinese and Thai items thrown into the mix.
There're several places in the GTA where main order comes with AYCE salad bar and soup.

Mongolian Grill. There's a few around GTA. They have a "Big Shield" cooking area where you fill up the bowl and give it to the chef who will cook it for you. There's also a buffet style area where you can grab sweets and some hot food. It's a neat experience and something I'd recommend doing once or twice. You can use their sauces or you can create your own. So there's a wide range of flavors that you can have.

Copacabana is actually pretty good. If you go a weekend (you'll definitely need reservations) they also have live music. It's really a lot of fun and you'll leave stuffed.

it probably won't be my 1st choice, well, not even 2nd or 3rd choice, for taking people from taiwan.
it would be a place where i take people who's never had asian food before.

The food is actually really good, but not cheap. Also don't fill up on the buffet<-- this is the typical rookie mistake.

Last time I went they had a live band, belly dancers, and and two guys doing capoeira. Not sure if guys jumping around wildly kicking the air with waiters running around with meat on swords in a packed house is such a smart idea.

We've been there before too, especially when I had those CaptainPass vouchers. :)
Bonus are some dimsum dishes and Chinese deserts (not talking about the red bean soup!).

But its a lot of fun  It's hard to say no to delicious meats on swords.

Spring Rolls has fairly decent Asian food.
Either you're not Asian or you're a whitewashed Asian.
Spring Rolls is equal to shopping mall food court Asian food. It's good as a random meal but far from a culinary experience.
