Canada Day is rapidly approaching and I want to put on a firework show for my guests. I am wondering where is a good place to purchase fireworks in the GTA. Also, I am looking to put on about a half hour show. How many pieces would I be looking at to put on a half hour show and approximately how much would it cost?

How much space do you have? I'm not sure if you're allowed to light off 30 minutes of fireworks in a residential area.
But yeah, seconding Kaboom. They're pretty great. Keep an eye on Groupon and Wagjag as they both had deals from Kaboom a couple of months ago.

I will be lighting the fireworks at a park across from my house and not in my own backyard so I assume it'll be ok. I'm also not looking for half an hour of continuous fireworks but more of half an hours worth with the slight breaks in between that it takes to setup and light the fireworks. I will definitely keep an eye out on the group deal sites for any deals. Thanks!

Actually lighting fireworks in public parks is not allowed in the GTA. But many people do it anyway, and I don't think you'll run into trouble unless you do something stupid like roman candle fighting. Personally I think it's safer than firing in your backyard and setting your neighbours roof on fire.
Search online for Kaboom, Victory, and Rocket fireworks. Between those retailers you can't go terribly wrong. All of those retailers have online videos on their websites, which I highly recommend you preview to make sure you want the effect. I find kaboom is slightly more expensive and they have the same effects as other retailers but with different names/packaging. Fat Boy is quite popular too, but I've never actually ventured in there myself.
Personally I would buy a bunch of cakes of various sizes, and a couple of decent (>30 sec) fountains. I would skip the cheap roman candles and whistlers, or if you do decide to buy some, don't buy too many. The reason being 1) they are boring as hell, and 2) if you're at a busy park with other people shooting their own fireworks, chances are they will be using prebuilt kits which are overloaded with roman candle effects anyway. You can watch them shoot roman candles all night long.
I've fired off my own fireworks for a few years but stopped this year because it gets so damn expensive, lol. I would estimate you're looking at around $200 for a 30 minute show, which includes the downtime between each firework to set up for the next one. Don't be in a rush to blow through your fireworks too quickly one after another. Take your time and enjoy the fireworks other groups around you are firing as well.
My favourite firework is called Golden Rain Willow... it is a one shot flower effect but it always gets a great reaction for the price. I always get at least one of these.

I'm assuming that each firework would take about an average of about 20 seconds from the time you light it to the time it is complete. Add another 30 seconds to set up the firework on the ground, light it, and run, and maybe about another 30-40 seconds to clean up the used fireworks.........so that would be about an average time of around a minute and a half from setup -- to the end of the firework -- to clean up. At that pace I guess I'm looking for about a 20 piece fireworks set. My budget is somewhere between $100-$150.

This is a little bit over your budget, but I'm sure there's enough here to keep you busy for a while. Never tried it but people were discussing these in the hot deals forum.

you can probably find fireworks in most convenience stores, or just by driving around you might see trailers in parking lots of plazas/strip malls

I think the place i went to for the long weekend was called wizards. A friend and I split $300 worth of fireworks and had them going for almost 2 hours. Mind you this wasnt in our backyard but it was about 5 minutes away (walking)

We have bought for the past decade at Kaboom on Laird...
100to 150 budget is a small to medium kit...or 4 to five larger fireworks.
We always lit in our street or backyard...my only concern with the park is that you done have a hose etc...

It's better to wait until closer to Canada Day. You should have no problem finding fireworks the week before. Just drive around town a few days before and you'll probably see signs or some guy selling them on a corner or in a parking lot.
