guys here is the dilemma I have ...

I have my own small business but it is run out of my house (AutoCAD + Unigraphics and Automotive parts) ... I use my garage for parts storage and I have a office setup inside my house which is my small business area ... and yes it is a legit company registered with a business number and everything ....

anyways ... I used to have Rogers Business Internet hooked up as I needed unlimited bandwidth cap due to extremely large files I have to download on a regular basis and upload large files too which also counts towards my cap .... (they gave me the crappy Scientific Atlantic modem) and I literally returned that POS modem over 5 times in a span of 2 weeks and I eventually cancelled with them (perfect timing as I had a business trip overseas)

now the ONLY connection I was able to get from rogers business is 10Mbps DL and 2Mbps UL ... as my business is in a "residential area" and I cant signup with their 30 DL package ...

I tried TS and Distributel and Acanac and all 3 said that my POI is not serviceable for 3rd party cable hookup ....

Now I looked at Rogers Home cable packages and the fastest one is 75Mbps DL which is super for me but the cap is 250G a month and in the fine print it says that if I go over then I will be charged $50 fee ...

the 10 business package is $79+tax (modem rental included) and the 75Mbps is $99+tax+modem rental+$50 (overage fee)

I hardly watch Youtube videos except for the occasional Hell's Kitchen / Kitchen Nightmares every tuesday or whenever it comes on so really it is almost 90% business usage and the rest 10% is personal use ... I do however use VOIP for calls and Skype is used heavily for video conferencing ...

so would you guys go with the 10 DL business package or the 75 DL and pay the $50 overage every month

PS: with the business internet the invoice/bill has the business name on it so it is a write-off but if I get the residential one then it is a percentage of that ...

what do you guys think I should do ... continues with the business or just use the residential package ....

I fail to see the dilemma.

Is your current connection too slow?

Are you using more than 250 Gigs per month?

The 75/2 package is apparently being upgraded to 75/10, which might justify the overages.

well for one ... i will be paying $90 for ONLY 10Mbps or I can pay the same amount plus $50 more for the overage and get 75Mbps DL

one month I went almost 300GB ...

my average file is around 300Mb to upload thats not counting my downloads of the original files nor any other attachments I might receive!

the problem with Rogers is that they count my UL towards the cap ... if it was for DL then I think I would be fine .... I know when I start Skype the send under the connections settings thing in windows goes on steroids and looks like it i am filling gas lol

op - have you considered Pathway (http://www.pathcom.com/services/corporate-services/business-internet/fibre-optic/)? My friend has used their residential for years, and it's unlimited ul/dl. The link I posted, take you however, to their "Fiber Optical Business" plan...

You don't really have much of a dilemma. Either you pay for fast speeds and a cap + overage. Or you pay your normal and get unl cap and slower speeds.

I would call customer retentions and ask about an annual promotion or credit to get your bill to a decent price with the speeds you want. If it were me, business is important and speed makes it better. Depends on your needs/wants in the end though...

Cable only ?

You get 8Mb upload with 25Mb DSL.

75Mbps is kinda a waste unless you do a lot of simultaneous downloads.

I called Rogers business internet back and the only thing they can offer me is to lower the price to $69+tax if I sign a 1yr contract and $79 on monthly ..... what a load of BS joke!

why go on a contract for $10 discount per month or $120/yr ....

I really wonder why Acanac can't service your area. They are working on the Rogers network. By the latest CRTC ruling they should be able to offer it to you as long as they service your area (which is pretty much everywhere now)

well Teksavvy sent a notice to Rogers and Rogers answered them and told them that my POI cannot accept 3rd party cable providers ...

the thing is .. I would have rather went with TSI because they offer 24/7 tech support same as Rogers but Acanac and Distrubtel dont and they only offer ticket help and whatnot and if my internet is down there is no way for me to send them an email ....

Depending on your budget it's either low speed bus or high speed capped res cable. Roll a dice and take your pick. If you have the money you can also look at fibre and arrange for unlimited 10/10 Mbps and unlimited bandwidth.

Flafson is right, if your gettting rogers in the area, then you should be able to get Acanac. Right now they seem to be the best choice for cable internet. if you pay for a year up front you can get 28mbs down and 1 mbs up with unlimited data for 39 a month.

We do not have business packages for cable internet as of yet. If you address is listed as a business then you would not qualify.
Also, some areas in your postal code are fine for service. Once we try to establish a connection for you, our carrier advises us that it was a non serviceable area at this time then we can't offer the service in that area. Please note that we do not have access to all the same area where rogers is able to service. We do not have a coverage map, When we receive a order we submit to the carrier and they then determine if we are able to service the area.
