Don't you hate it when you're BBQing and you run out of propane with raw meat on the grill? Ya...well it just happened to me.
I'm just wondering where people go to fill or exchange there tanks. I've been going to gas stations to do exchanges on the tank for around $25-30 but would like to know if there's cheaper alternatives.

Much appreciated!

+1. And while you are there grab a spare tank and fill it too. Then you won't have that problem again.

$8.79 Costco Winnipeg St. James. I believe the other Costco stores in the city are in the $10+ range. I'm not sure why this one is so much cheaper although there's a large propane distributor just down the street.

And yes, if you do a reasonable amount of barbecuing you should have a full back up tank. It sure saves a lot of grief.

how much is it to purchase a new tank from costco? does it come pre filled? The refill price seems like a steal- do you need a membership (possibly dumb question)

I bought one last year, can't remember, but I think it was around $30. But now I can run one totally empty instead of filling it up when I think it's low (costs the same to reill if it is still half full). But yeah you need a membership, or a friend with one to go with.

If you need to replace an aging tank (or grab a spare), costco usually clears them out end of summer/early fall at a good 33-50% off.
I got a 30lb for $25+fill, IIRC.

+1 for Costco

I also like the idea of grabbing a spare so you dont run out in the middle of a BBQ.

Costco for $11

Always have two. One in the barbecue and one in the garage so that issue does not happen.

You shouldn't be storing a full tank in the garage.

^Should have rephrased but yes we know.
We are taking it to get exchanged at Costco today actually since it is 10 years old as off next month hence why it is in the garage for now. It is empty.
But yes sorry my fault. Garage summer cleaning on my mind. We put them straight up on concrete under deck.

It's empty - 28.99 (on sale) for a 20lbs Worthington tank. I think regular price is 34.99 for the tank.

I also noticed Costco has a 30lbs worthington tank on sale this year too.

Friday, I think the propane price was 9.90 for 20lbs.

it was under $10 for the refill at Costco yesterday at the Queensway location. I actually got my tank for free from them a while back (cashier must have thought that I was refilling the tank and not purchasing it) The people checking the receipts did not say anything as I was leaving the store.
