Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I need advice on my situation right now.
I posted an ad on kijiji offering incentive if they take over my rogers plan.
The guy calls from montreal and asks for $100 in return.
He says do a transfer of responsibility, and after it's done, send $100.
Is this a scam? can they deny transfer of responsibility after i send $100??
I have a feeling this might be scam..
Also, why would he, a stranger, trust me to send $100 after the transfer is done?? I can just not send him any money? why trust that I send $100 over email transfer??

Typically you get his info and tell your cell company that this guy is taking it over. They do credit checks on him etc and then contact him to finalize. Once that is done they'll notify you that you are off the contract and then you would send him the money.

As long as you're sending money AFTER Rogers has transferred ownership of the contract to that person, you're good.
Even if he wanted to cancel the contract after he gets your $100, he's on the hook (not you).
Key is make sure the transfer of ownership is complete on Rogers's end before sending the $100.
As goober said, he'd have to pass credit check and open the account with Rogers before they will allow him to assume ownership of his account.
I've done dozens of transfer of ownership boths ways (getting plans and getting rid of plans) with Fido, Rogers and Telus. They all work the same way.

What are the associated charges with transfer of ownership and who is required to pay those?
Thanks.

Telus is $35 I think. Basically they charge it to the account, unless you can find another way. So if you wanted to pay the fee for the guy taking over, the easiest way would be to paypal him or find another way to transfer the money.

LOL! I dont think so.
Im sure they check that no outstanding charges are on the account before doing the switch....

If he ask you to send money 1st, you probably won't do it and think to yourself how can you trust him
So if he ask you to do the transfer 1st and then send $100, he trust that you will do it. if you don't then you are the one scamming

i've switched with someone else. the guy seemed kinda sketchy
I just PM ed you. I think the same thing might have happened to me. I posted an add on Kijiji a couple of days ago and had someone offer to take over my cell phone contract too, but he lived in Quebec.
Just make sure to call your Service provider and get them to verify that the account has been taken out of your name. Get the time, date, and names of everyone you speak to just to be certain.
