Do you guys have this problem?
I have a desktop with a shared folder that contains my TV shows.
The folder is rather large but most of the files have be categorized and put into respective sub-folders.
When I browse to the folder on my netbook, Windows does this scanning thing...
What you see is at the top of the window, where the folder/directory name appears, it does a little progress bar thing (in green).
And it takes forever to go from beginning to end.
Make no sense cuz the files are already showing in list view, why does it need to do this scan thing?

I think it is generating a preview (icon) of each movie.
One way to test this is to change to a LIST or DETAIL view. The others should try to open the file a bit and generate a pic as an icon.
Sort of nice ... for a wired gigabyte network. Could be problematic in a wireless environment with a slow PC.

My usually folder view is "detailed" which lists the filename, file type, size, mod date, etc.
The main drive is about 1.5TB. All the videos are in folders and sub-folders.
This happens even when I am in a sub-folder which contains only 10 video files.

Will this fix also work for folders with picture files in it? I have the same problem as OP but with folders in a lot of pics. Its like everytime I delete or add a new pic the system goes throught he folder and refreshes everything.

I hate it about the newer OSs that they do stuff without being asked to. And the amount of BS they give is ridiculous, e.g. "do not scan files" translates into "Optimize this folder for Videos"

Too bad you didn't just copy & paste the solution. You would have appeared as a genius instead of another link paster.

Okay guys thanks for your replies, but turns out something was messed up with my router.
I noticed recently that my iPads were crawling... YouTube was slow as molasses.
Originally thought it was just my internet connection, cuz dumb Shaw sometimes slows down.
When I brought up my WIFI settings on the netbook, I realize my speed is between 2 and 3Mbps.
That's the same speed as EDGE!
Anyway, I rebooted the router and my speeds are back up to 60 to 70Mbps.
Windows still does that bloody folder scanning, but much faster now.
