Anyone experiencing issues with the latest version of VLC media player? since its latest update ive experienced serious lags and crashes.

Can anyone recommend another media player thats light on resources?

Whether a media player uses more resources or not really has little to do with the program itself but rather the codecs that it uses to playback video or audio formats. VLC uses a built-in albeit buggy suite of codecs. I would recommend media player classic, which I use with the combined community codec pack (CCCP).

I think vlc uses a lot of software decoding to get around a lot of licensing problems so that's why its such a resource hog.

What kind of videos are you looking to play?

Agree with MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) - I find it as light on resources as they come, simple to use, and easy to customize. It comes with the K-Lite pack.

If you have downloaded codecs with your latest VLC (which it usually has already) I'd uninstall whatever packs you have and do a fresh reinstall of the K-Lite pack with MPC-HC. The standard or full packs should be fine for almost all rendering.
