It's alright, I got better things to do than pushing the refresh button on google images and google news to try and update this thread for the community and for RFD, while the OP said lock his to keep mine open ...
Sad to hear that this happened in Toronto and at Downsview Park. I hope it does not have an effect on the remaining concerts scheduled for this summer, since Downsivew is always so sensitive about these types of events (and lack thereof because of it).

I don't think it was the weather because it wasn't even that windy.

I got to the park around 5pm and didn't know what was going on but the police weren't letting cars into the parking lot so i thought that was a bit strange. i tried to go in through the main entrance but there was no clear gap to let people in so i thought maybe the entrance was somewhere else so i just followed another group of people but then this group walking towards me tells my friend that the concert is cancelled.

we thought they were having a laugh! sure enough, we go to the fence near the back of the stage and the top part is completely crumpled! disappointed and hungry, we just headed to the nearest restaurant where more radiohead fans were drowning their sorrows. although we bumped into quite a few americans who made the drive to see radiohead.

TORONTO - One person died and three were injured when a stage collapsed ahead of Radiohead concert at Toronto's Downsview Park on Saturday.

Members of the stage crew were setting up for the Radiohead concert around 4 p.m. "when the top portion of the stage collapsed on top of them," police say.

The collapse prompted a city-wide response by emergency service response teams.

No members of the public were in the area at the time as the gates had yet to be opened to the concert area.

"My understanding is they were all stage crew," Const. Tony Vella said. "They were simply preparing for the concert."

One man in his mid-30s was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Toronto Fire Services platoon chief Tony Bellavance confirmed firefighters assisted in extricating the man after they arrived on scene and found reports of someone trapped under the stage.

"It was a crushing injury," he said. "It was bad enough, unfortunately, it killed the man."

The remaining staff on the stage ran from the area when they heard it coming down, according to police.

Toronto Emergency Services already had an ambulance on the scene in preparation for the concert. The unit responded immediately.

Apart from the deceased, three other men were injured. One was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury and later released.

The other two were treated on scene for minor injuries.

Other park workers were in the field when the stage collapsed. The park was evacuated soon after.

Road closures nearby tied up traffic in the hours immediately after the collapse.

The identity of the deceased man is not being disclosed until the next-of-kin has been notified, police said last night.

Vella said the force is collaborating with the Ontario Ministry of Labour to investigate the exact sequence of events leading up to the collapse.

From his understanding, the stage was erectly mainly for the Radiohead concert. He urged witnesses to come forward so they can piece together what happened.

Police have not confirmed who owns the stage.

According to customer service, TicketMaster is automatically refunding the cost of tickets to credit cards. Tickets bought at retail outlets can be refunded at the respective points of purchase.

Last year, two music festivals suffered from a similar fate barely a month apart.

In July 2011, Ottawa Bluesfest saw the stage collapse after a strong gust of wind 20 minutes into Cheap Trick's set.

In August the same year, a stage collapsed at Indiana State Fair, leaving seven dead.

Glad we opted for the Flaming Lips show instead. I'd be pretty mad if we dropped $100 on these tickets.

Really tragic what happened to the tech and I hope they get to the bottom of who's responsible.

Might as well mention that the person who died was Radiohead's (Phillip Selway's) drum technician Scott Johnson. He was also a drum tech. for Keane. Probably hits a bit closer to home for Radiohead. Wonder if they'll make changes to the European leg of their tour? Highly doubt they'll reschedule this show.

Interesting to note, Radiohead cancelled a Toronto concert during the major blackout in 2003.

On a side note, I had to sell extra tickets 'cuz friends cancelled on me. I've since contacted the person I sold them to and they haven't replied via text, email, or phone. Oh well, their loss.
