Hey guys,

first time posting in this section of the forum.

I ran across these JVC headphones while at Future Shop today. Regularly they are $39.99, but are on sale for $19.99. All kinds of different colours. Sale ends June 21st, 2012.

They sound pretty good, and I think you can't go wrong with $20.

To be honest, would you really want something named "Xplosives" to be inside your ear? Really?

They're probably super-muffled like all IEMs in this range. But I'm a sucker for cheapo trinkets, so I'll probably pick up a pair later today and report.

Here's the label of the headphones you posted from amazon:

and here's the label from the ones I bought in futureshop:

I'm no audio expert, but there doesn't seem to be too much difference. Plus, the FS ones come with a mic and one button remote!

Reviews are REALLY good on these! Only $3.75 or so to ship to Alberta.

You love these earphones? Have you compared to high end ones? Looks like a lot of the reviewers did. They liked them a lot.

Thanks, but too late, I bit. It's ok if they're ugly as hell, they are for my spouse, not me. I'll try to come back to this thread and let others know what we think, once they are in.

Thanks OP, I picked up a couple of pairs of these. They sound way better then the JVC gummies I paid $20 for 6 months ago (they fit in my ears better, maybe that's why).

I have these and I also have the MTPC/HJE900s. The MP8320 beats everything below the $50 price point, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the earphones at the $100 price points. IMO, the biggest problem with these earphones is the fitting issue. I've only found one set of tips out of 10-15 sets that I have that works well for me with these earphones. If you're on a budget, definitely give these a try!

Back on topic, does anyone have feedback about the SQ of the JVCs?

Hi, just curious, how do these compare to your MTPC ?

If you're talking about the MP8320s, then there's no comparison (MTPC >>MP8320s in almost every aspect). Issue for me with regards to the MP8320s is that I can't seem to get a good fit with it so the sound is inferior to even my Brainwavz M1s for a lot of the music that I listen to. Keep in mind that the MTPCs cost 20-40x the cost of the MP8320s.

ESP
Jun 20th, 2012, 07:47 AM
I might be interested in getting one or maybe 2 JVC headphone pairs.. i think the older model is a better pick due to the thicker and straight looking cord vs. the thinner and "wrinkled" cord on the new model.. i think the better cord makes the older model more fashionable to wear? Also the YouTube review posted here claims the older model has a better sound quality?

Anyone care to comment on those 2 aspects?

Where can i order the JVC HAFX1X for a decent price?

You know, I am pretty big on earphones, and all the buying etc has stopped once I got the MTPC's. I sent them back for RMA, because the casing broke... but in that period, I've used numerous earphones, Brainwavz (I got the bassy ones as well), Shures...

I can't stand them anymore, can't wait till I get the MTPC's back! :)

Good thing I saw this thread.

Bought these 16 days ago...thought FS' price protection was 2 weeks...it's actually 30 days! Time to pay them a visit today :D

These headphones have great bass that's good for rap music or bass heavy music. The trebles are okay but not as good as I would have wanted. Sound iso is fantastic as you can't hear anything if they're on at a decent volume. For $20, these are a steal especially when it comes with a mic/remote.

EDIT: My mistake, the FR201s are considered identical to the FX101 which actually makes this a pretty good deal. Not as much info available on the FR201s as the FX101s. These are considered much better than the FX1X. Pretty good deal at $20, far superior to most IEM at that price range, might go pick a pair up. As with most JVC, they need a good burn in to really appreciate them.

I know exactly what you mean :D. When I got my pannys (HJE900s), everything else just sounded so bad to me. The MTPCs were my last pair of earphones as well and I usually alternate between these two pairs now.

This is one thing I hate about buying earphones. Basically, you can never go back down to cheaper earphones once you've heard the better ones...

demez
Jun 20th, 2012, 12:18 PM
Well the main purpose of cheaper earphones is as a stepping stone towards better quality ones. It's essentially to determine what features you want in a quality IEM. In the end cheaper earplugs will always serve a purpose even when you have better ones already, because who wants to use expensive earphones at the gym, to mow the lawn, etc.

Do the JVC FX40's have the same strong quality bass like the FX101? are they an upgraded version of the FX101?

demez
Jun 20th, 2012, 02:12 PM
Different sounds, the fx101s are an improvement over the fx1x, same strong bass but with cleaner all around sound. The fx40 are an overall cleaner sound, if you listen to jazz, vocals, etc. but they do deal with bassy tunes quite well. If you listen to hip-hop, electronica, etc. I'd suggest the fx101/fr201. Hard to find quality bassy earphones that also have decent all around sound at such a price range. Honestly, check out that page I posted if you're interested in JVC's, there's a good 50 pages of more in depth and detailed analysis of them by people that know more about IEMs than me.

I think the fx101 will suit my needs just fine since i listen to electronica and techno the most.. thanks for the good advice!

Im going to order a pair of FX101 from FS for 35$ shipped unless someone knows a cheaper source?

The FX40 is selling for 50$ + tax at FS.. Amazon.com US sellers have both FX40 AND FX101 for 15$ each or 30$ total + shipping.. that's an insane good deal, i might pick up both if i find a reasonable shipping rate to Canada..

Shipping to a border location might work for some folks who are regular cross-border shoppers, for an even better deal (free shipping or very low rate).

The FR201 and FX101 are identical in specs and performance, only difference is the FR201 come with a mic which is why they are $10 more regular price. No point in waiting for shipping and paying more when you can get them for $20 at FS today. Here's the press release from when they announced the models.

http://www.jvc.ca/www/Company/PressReleases/JVC_HAFR201-HAFX101_1.10.12.pdf

The two new headphones are identical in specifications and performance, with the HA-FR201 adding an
in-line remote control and microphone. Shared features include JVC’s Extreme deep bass port that
delivers strong bass reproduction, and a powerful 0.33 -inch neodymium driver in each housing for clean,
clear sound.

Well, the monster turbine pro coppers have a lifetime warranty, so I am using them everywhere, the casing broke in the gym, so I am not worried. I carry awesome sound with me anywhere I go and I don't have to worry that they will break etc... they will even replace them if you take a pair of scissors and cut the cable(s) (first time only).

The only thing about that warranty is, you have to be the original owner, so buying of kijiji or ebay isn't a good idea, even if authentic..if something goes wrong they wont replace under lifetime warranty...maybe only once.

The form is pretty long, authorized dealer, serial, receipt, (the name has to match to the original buyer)

I think the biggest selling point for me over all the others getting recommended, is that the OP's have the mic and switch. I'm using these on an android cell phone, so it was an absolute must for me. And coupled with the fact they have decent quality sound and only $20 you can't go wrong.

There's actually an update to that youtube video where the reviewer states that he wasn't wearing them properly the whole time and once he figured out how to fit them in his ear they are actually just as good if not better than the FX1X. I've just finished burning them in about 22 hours and the sound is really starting to come out now, going to do another 20 or so hours on bassdrive and they should sound fantastic.

The Source had them at $40 but they seem to be at $30 now, I don't think anyone else carries JVC earphones other than FS, BB and The Source, I could be mistaken though. At $30 you'd be getting $1 on a PM so not really worth the effort I would think.

I don't think The Source offers the 10% difference. Also, I don't believe BB carries these or JVC's in general as I don't see JVC as a listed brand under their headphones page.

If you want to PM then ideally you would want FS to have the highest price. Unfortunately this isn't the case so this would be the lowest price imo.

Hmm, on JVC's site they showed BB as one of their carriers. And you're right about The Source, just checked out their policy and they'll match it but not beat it. So yeah, at $20 this seems to be the best deal currently available in Canada.

They had at least 10 pairs of each colour when I picked-up my pair yesterday afternoon. Not a fan of in-ear headphones but I couldn't find a pair of regular earbuds with a remote/mic/volume/decent sound that are reasonably priced for my iPhone (the apple ones are complete garbage) so these will have to do. Not bad for $20 haha
