What is your favorite or most memorable decade and why? If you could pick any particular 1 or 2 year period which was the best ever, or just conjures up the most positive emotions, which is it? For me it would have to be the 1980s. I was a teen back then, and I loved the music and the school memories. Favorite year is probably 1985-1986. The economy was good, the girls were gorgeous and life was a lot less stressful.

Early 1990's. Was a kid then. A world without computers ans smart phones where you could have conversations. Enjoyed playing outside, inventing games. A game didn't come on a plastic disk then. Family was not Facebook. Ahh the 90's :)

Same. The television shows were better too. Saturday cartoons are not the same anymore. :(

Probably the 1980s around 86-87. That's when I started hanging around a lot with my cumpare. Before that I only saw him on Christmas, Easter, First Communion etc.

I would probably go with 1994-1996.

I agree with this post - the mid 90's were awesome....

I was growing up in the 90s too and it was awesome. There was technology but not like the way it is now. And things were quite affordable, gas wasn't crazy, movies were $4-6, TV was better back then (none of the reality crap). There are good rock bands now but back then, you would actually hear them on radio/TV rather than the generic X Factor pop crap.

Everyone is gonna idolize their childhood though.

The 90s were by far the best. The 2000s so far were the worst time of my life, so relieved I got rid of everything I hated during those times.

The 80's were the best! Bruce Springsteen Born In The U.S.A. album. Michael Jackson's record breaking Thriller.

Don't people generally idealize the decade that they happened to have their teenage years in?

It's a toss up for decade.

Lost my virginity in the 70's
Savings bond interest rates went above 19% in the 80's

I'm not sure which one excited me more.

Pretty much all of the 70's were fantastic. I was just a kid then, and did nothing but play with the rest of the neighborhood kids all summer long.
All the parents in town had a whistle with their own special sequence to blow it. When we heard a specific whistle, we knew which kid had to go home.
Ahh the good ole days!

I pretty much idealize the decade when I was a kid the most - the 1990s. Started off as a two year old, haha. Most of my favourite music, TV shows, and movies are from that time (movies also go earlier... much earlier). I always get really nostalgic about that period and wish I was a teenager/my current age at that time.

my favorite decade and year is this one, 2012. So far 2012 hasn't been anything special, but the possibilities of what can happen in the future are what amaze me. My favorite moment is always the one I'm in.

Mid 21st century. These are the years that I've got my own job already. I started helping my family then.

1970s were, the way I see it, the golden period of Canada.
My personal favourite #1 - 1987 to 1991. Communist system was crashing down and we were full of hopes. Then 1992 came and everyone understood how good did we have it before in the good old USSR.
Favourite #2 for the USSR - circa 1980. Mini-consumer boom filled by petrodollars.

Favorite decade 2000s.

Favorite year 2008 - I met my wife that year, and things really turned around in my life.
That year is when I started kicking ***** .

1990's when I was a kid, actually went out, played had fun, had friends, wasn't infatuated with gadgets and electronics. Now it's just miserable 9-5 and weekend go by in a blink.

80's

Had computers, gaming consoles, Internet, could watch movies at home, surround sound, fuel injection, disc brakes etc. Pretty much everything we have now.

Now the better part. Less guns. Police were more lenient, schools were more lenient (you couldn't walk the hallways during class in the 70's and down or the 90's and up. No smog tests for cars, cheap gas, real food ( small independent burger joints and doughnut shops etc). August 1 1981, MTV launched at 12:01 and it was then that video killed the radio...
Dress how you like, paint your hair green and spike it and the list goes on and on.

As soon as the 90's hit school became violent and started their zero tolerance policies, mom and pop stores died, electronics began monitoring what you do instead of just helping. Customer service took a steep nosedive. Police started becoming more aggressive, they introduced the GST.

For sure. "What's your favorite stage in life" seems like a more appropriate title.
