First what I have to offer AS3830TG-6415 (this is a good laptop with poor quality control standards at assembly and battery issue, check the web for details but read below first)
The laptop was purchased then returned to staples a couple of times within the first week.
first one, the battery life was dropping like a percent a day (check the web for sanyo vs panasonic for acer)
2nd one was DOA -- Then finally third , or was it forth, got one with a good battery.
Then, I took the cooling system apart, removed the bubble gum stuff they put and applied real thermal paste.
realigned the thermal pads that were not in the right place... I actually took pictures of this stuff because I thought i was funny and was going to email acer about it but then figured nah they might want my serial number lol.
upgraded the ram to 8GB (i think corsair can't remember) and put in the 120gb SSD
After that the laptop pretty much stayed in my bedside table. I bring it when I go on trips but because of the screen size I try not to use it (I used to love smaller laptops, now my eyes prefer 15 and up)
I still have the original 750GB WD drive that was never used. (I was going to just make a recovery disk but I figured why make disks when I have a recovery hdd). That can be included instead of the SSD.
see staples site (http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=375410&AffixedCode=WW&cmSearchKeyword=as3830)for specs:
Product highlights - it does come with usb 3.0 port, 1.3mp camera, 3d surround (simulated) sound
battery DOES last a very long time - over 8 hrs - if you are doing light work (like office and stuff and NOT gaming)
It is capable of gaming - D3 / WoW not a problem but again, just the screen is too small for my aging eyes.
What I am looking for : Similar spec'd laptop, or matching the following requirements:
cpu - 4 digit intel only, i.e. i3 - 2330 exact model of cpu doesn't matter, its a laptop.
GPU - must have discrete , great if its the same as the acer one which uses intel , and nvidia only when needed.
Screen size must be bigger, pref 15 but may consider bigger (otherwise then its pointless)
memory and hdd that stuff can be sorted out easily enough.
I will pay for difference if you laptop is worth more than mine.
feel free to pm what you have if you are interested.
*** just to clarify the laptop has no "throttling" issue no battery issue. etc. I don't use throttle stop.
90% of the usage was idling. reading email, checking forums ;)
