Ok, with the Luka Magnotta crazy crap about chopping the victim's head off....now there are 2 recent cases (1 in India and 1 in Paris):
Man beheads daughter for eloping; parades her head through village in India
JAIPUR, INDIA—Police say a man upset over his daughter’s lifestyle chopped her head off with a sword and then paraded it through his village before surrendering to authorities in western India.
Marble miner Ogad Singh’s 20-year-old daughter had been living with her parents in the Rajasthani village of Dungarji after leaving her husband two years ago.
Police Superintendent Umesh Ojha says Singh was upset by his daughter having affairs with men, and became enraged when she eloped with one of them two weeks ago. Headless corpses found in Paris picnic spot
PARIS- Police were questioning a couple on Monday about two headless torsos and a footless leg discovered near a popular picnic spot on the eastern edge of Paris.
The macabre mystery began when a jogger found a rotting leg in the Vincennes woods earlier this month and a guide dog then unearthed a torso nearby, a source close to the inquiry said.
The case took a new twist on Saturday when a couple presented themselves to police and led officers to a second headless torso in the woods.

What kind of media-insulated place do you occupy to establish that the world is only now going "head-cutting" crazy? Did you completely miss the articles about beheadings in Mexico due to, among other things, corruption and turf wars?
The world is not going any more head-cutting crazy than before (whenever before is for you). They just happen to occupy the media's attention in (relatively) same window of tme.

Did you completely miss the articles about beheadings in Mexico due to, among other things, corruption and turf wars?.that is one region where the beheadings were taking place and it was gang related/turf war......whereas india and paris (esp. in paris and a very public place) are pretty different and these are pretty random....not really apples to apples IMO...
They just happen to occupy the media's attention in (relatively) same window of tme.this could be true...just a coincidence of the timing etc...
Just bizarre though...murder is one thing.....but the beheadings.....**shudder**

Maybe Paris (though we have no idea what caused that)... but as for the India one, it's not restricted to India at all, young adults have been being killed by relatives who feel dishonoured by the younger generation's lifestyle in many different cultures for hundreds of years or longer. There are even honour killings in Canada. Is it any more barbaric that it's a beheading rather than a drowning or a shooting?

This is not even newsworthy.
Beheadings are part of the 'Honour Killings' mentality. It's been around for a billion years or so and if you disagree with it, you'll be labelled a racist to their culture.

Decapitate is more a modern term / medical term
Beheading is for old school / barbarian type term. Used in middle ages / holy wars / etc etc wars.
Note, using a gun to kill in modern times does not require one to chop off another's head to finish them off.
I think the India one has something to do with honour. I won't say anymore, because it's against the rules in OT.

It is easier to spell beheading than decapitated.
