Sure. They may not give a crap or do something they love that pays less. Some people that use their brains to push the limit have no spare time and and no family life. I know a few and they make good coin and buy their families unlimited toys to try to cover up their absence.

Wife divorced them anyway in the end. They took on a hot girl half their age to get even.

There are many idiots in this world that get paid 6 figures and there are many intellectuals who work as slaves in the job cycle

The ones with real high IQ are most likely introverted and socially inept. Successful businessmen and employees thrive on social relations to advance in their career and make more money. They're not necessarily exceptionally intelligent.

IQ has no bearing to how much you earn.

Serious answer:

High IQ only gets you to a certain point, career/income wise.

EQ pushes you over that point.

Smart people are more prone to moody self-obsession and other mental problems. Ignorance is bliss, and a blissful person puts people at ease and thus can attain more personal success.

This is true in the U.S, not sure about elsewhere. Asians earn the highest income in the United States and they also have the highest IQ.

If that were true, Harper would be the lowest paid person in the country.

You just need enough IQ to make people with high IQ to work for you. Then you sit back and reap the rewards.

There certainly is a correlation, but one's income depends on so much more than one's brainpower.

Blockwork
Jun 18th, 2012, 03:21 PM
income is based on
company
location
position
experience
diplomas/degrees/licenses/certifications
age
race
religion
appearance
some more things

but most importantly, it depends on networking and connections

most "1%-ers" are in that position not through hard work and dedication nor through a high IQ, but through basic training and knowing someone who helped them get their foot in the door.

the general rules are:
in a small company, your income is proportional to your IQ
in a big corporation, your IQ will only distract you from making career. social skills are more important

It's important to a point, IME. You need to be smart enough to function effectively rather than be a brilliant super genius. In business your personality, drive, etc makes a difference. Factors such as social/community ties and family financial background make a difference.

I have people in my employ who are smarter than me, I have competitors who are MUCH more successful than me despite being low on the scale of intellectual and emotional intelligence.

I was in the gifted program at a public school and in the normal program in an exclusive private school. In most cases, the less intelligent kids from private school did better than the average "gifted" kid. Such is life, I don't put too much stock in these things.

Not true! Witness the $100k salary of RFD members and the popularity of this forum.

In most cases, the less intelligent kids from private school did better than the average "gifted" kid.In Canada, being born with silver spoon shaves 10-15 years from your career path to get to any given position. Rich scions usually start right after university at positions comparable to what mid-30s person with successful career would have.

No, not correct. Low IQ = more income, duh.

I'm working on being dumber as we speak.

I take this to mean that posting in (or even just reading) the Off-Topic forum.

However, I think the Off-Topic forum makes people smarter.

See, because we read all the ignorant and silly stuff, we actually become smarter.

When we deal with people in real life we have been conditioned by the Off-Topic forum to not be a complete and utter tool.

Because we appear to not be complete tools, we get better jobs and more income.

Thus, our collective stupidity actually makes us collectively smarter.

In reality, everyone is a complete moron. As an RFD poster and browser you actually develop the ability to hide your inner ***** .

I think RFD could promote this fact over the web. However, if everyone in the world posted here, everyone would be smart and therefore we would lose the "smarter than other people" factor. So, it is actually in our best interest that everyone believes that reading or posting in this forum will lead to stupidity.

You people realize that some of the smartest people in the world lack the ability to get anything done because they're so scatterbrained. IQ != organized and efficient.

I submit the stereotypical physics professor as evidence.
