Thinking of replacing my 2008 Outback 3.0R with the RX350 or FX35. Just want to hear your opinions about the two SUV (CUV?) in terms of reliability and anything.
Thanks for your input!:D

I dunno how it happened, but RX became firmly associated with "lady car". FX is seen as a man's vehicle.

FX looks great, but interior space is lacking. It felt smaller than a X3, probably not on paper, but when you sit in one that's what it feels like.
The styling is great, but all those sexy lines pay the price, it's not as practical as some of its competitors.
RX is a lady's car / boring etc.

RX 350: reliability, lower gas usage, more spacious
FX 35: better drive, higher gas usage

RX is very common so if price plays a role, you can probably find one for a good deal.

Really? I thought the 2nd and 3rd gen RX had more male drivers then the last generation. :-0

nah lol, there's a reason why Lexus is coming out with F-Sport for RX 350.
go for the FX 35 if you want a better ride and better feel for the car. I assume your budget is within $30k?

the back passenger seat space is definitely smaller than our X3.

for a daily drive. If overall ride quality is your priority.
FX ride - very bumpy & hard. Like a truck. I used to own one.
RX ride - ride more like a car, softer. At least much softer than FX.

I drive to work 5 days a week, Yonge/401 to downtown, looks like RX is a better choice for me...

How the hell are you cross shopping an FX35 and an RX350?
I guess I'll go cross shop an E63 Wagon and an Accord Crosstour.

Go ahead and downgrade that Accord to a Kia Rio - perfect comparison to an E63 wagon.

Waste of money. All the enhancements in the world won't fix the transverse engine layout and high center of gravity. If you wan't handling, the Compact luxury SUV isn't where you'll find it.

Not quite like a truck. It has stiffer sport suspension that provides much better handling than the RX. It handles much better than most cars out there. I absolutely love it!
And the 3.5L VQ engine (although a little thirsty) is bullet-proof when it comes to reliability.

Thanks for the input. Do you own an FX35 or 50? How's the last gen F compare to the current gen? Thanks

I own an FX35 - the FX50 is exactly the same vehicle except for the larger engine. The FX35 is more than powerful enough (and more than thirsty enough) for me. Apart from the obvious exterior differences (although I must admit, I prefer some aspects of the previous gens exterior more), the interior on the current gen FX is gorgeous - light years ahead of the previous gen.
I had initially checked out the RX, but I found that some interior parts just felt very cheap for a premium vehicle. However, the thing I really hated about it was the fact that I got very little "road-feel" from the steering wheel - it felt much too "insulated" and took away from the fun of driving.
Also, look into the difference of the insurance premiums before deciding. It may be quite significant.

Since I do mostly highway driving, the gas consumption for the FX is not that bad compare to the RX and my Outback:

+1
F-Sport won't transfer more torque to the rear.
These two cars are fundamentally quite different.
