Hi folks,

So it seems after my new build, there was one slight detail I overlooked. My motherboard doesn't even have 6 connections for speakers, etc. My previous one did. This one just has line in, front speakers out and mic. Basically green, blue and pink. My speakers use green black and orange so basically I am looking for a sound card for that supports 5.1 sound.

Was looking at this - http://ncix.com/products/?sku=56330&vpn=XONAR%20DG&manufacture=ASUS

Don't want to spend TOO much on a sound card. I guess max budget is $50 with taxes in?

HD movies must have have HD sound !!! it's also great for music and gaming too ... that's why you can't be cheap on the sound .... :-0

What are the prices?

Edit: Just saw this. Way out of my budget for now, or at least when it comes on sale.

I don't think there are vista/w7 drivers for this card.

I know this is 7.1 sound but is the price worth it?

For that price range, the Asus Xonar DG has good sound quality.

It also has a built-in headphone amp.

The Xonar DG is a very good sound card for so cheap...if ~$30 is all you wanted to spend then id def suggest getting that. Also, pricematch Tigerdirect to save a few dollars: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7040891&CatId=2769

Ya I think I will go with this one for sure. Just need to ensure that CC or NCIX will PM Tiger Direct.

Hmm its $29.99 after the $5 instant rebate at CC. Think they'll PM the price of $27.82 from Tiger Direct? I know its not a big difference but was just curious.

A basic Xonar will do but if you can spare the coin, go for an HT Omega. The difference is worth it.

I don't know why anybody would ever consider buying a Creative Labs product after all the crap they have put people through with their products and drivers. I supported them for years, and was constantly let down. NEVER AGAIN.

I am about to get back into the discrete soundcard market and move away from onboard, and I am 99% certain I'll be buying the HT Omega Claro. Just waiting for the price to drop again at Newegg...

True but I don't want to drop a big amount on a sound card considering I'll be using my headphones with the Fiio E17 mainly.

So a < $50 sound card comes into play.

I am sure that will take sometime for it to drop in price no? Even if it does what is the cheapest price?

They are not impossible to find.

You found the vista/w7 drivers? I tried a few years ago, but failed. At the time, they claimed no support. I gave up and bought a used Audigy 2 ZS.

It's sad that it requires support from non-creative devs to support the device.

OP do yourself a favour and get the asus card.

What motherboard do you have, build in sound is pretty good. Unless you need headphone amp

Asus P8Z77-V LX. The only audio connectors in the back are mic in (pink), front out (blue) and another one green. Usually in the old mobo when I plug the speaker connectors, orange, green and black into the respective colors, a pop up would show verifying if i am connecting FR/FL/RF/RL and sub speakers, etc.

Hence why I am looking for a dedicated sound card plus its way better. Currently I have plugged in the speaker cables into all 3 including the mic in. Its also messing up my sound settings as well.
