My cat has been on this food since January 2011 for constipation. It seemed to be working great. Two months ago, we noticed that the food had changed slightly. The shape had changed, but fortunately my cat isn't a picky eater. Then my cat started to get constipated again. We had to take her to the vet and she was put on a medication. It has been a rough two months and we were getting really worried (she's 16 years old).
We mentioned to two different vets that the food had changed, but they both said that it was exactly the same stuff, just a different shape, so we never thought that the food could be the problem. However, this weekend, we opened up a new bag, and it was the old stuff again. Within one day the cat was back to her usual stinky self. She no longer needs to be medicated.
Has anyone else noticed something wrong with this food? I know that there have been supply issues, but maybe there was a bad batch?

have you tried using Laxatone? which is used to relieve constipation? it's made up of a fish oil, and usually does well for cats... you can pick it up at your vets, i believe

She's better now. This post is about a quality issue with the food. But thanks for the suggestion! She was on Lactulose for two months.

Hi,
My cat is on this too. He is also on lactulose on top of the food. I did notice a change in the way the food looks. my cat still eats it, etc.. I don't notice a worsening of the constipation really because he is also on lactulose..

Hi there,
I work for Royal Canin and am sure there have been no changes to Feline Gastrointestinal Fibre Response formula since it was launched. Do you still have the bag with the different kibble in it? I strongly urge you to phone the 1-800 number at the bottom of the bag of food and speak to a consumer affairs representative. They can look up the exact lot of product using the date code on the bag and tell you if there were any issues with the product, as well as confirm any changes to the kibble shape etc.
Thanks!

Thanks. I already contacted Royal Canin. Unfortunately we had already thrown out he bag before we noticed that the cat was better again, and garbage day was that day, so I don't have the number. I am going to try to contact my vet and ask if they have any record of the lot number/expiry date.
I offered to send a photo of the different shapes, but was told that wouldn't help much. The good food has a defined three point shape, almost like petals, the bad food is almost triangular.
On the bright side, my cat is better! Hopefully there won't be any more changes in the food.
