Hello guys, it seems both of this laptops are for sale; so, which one would you recommend for college, and gaming?

Which one is more lighter? what the weight on this? And which one performs better?

Gaming and college don't belong in the same sentence, and gaming laptops are a fools' game -- you pay top dollar for hardware that is typically almost obsolete (by desktop standards) the minute it rolls off the assembly line, plus you suffer poorer battery life. If you need a machine for gaming, go assemble one from parts, don't think that a laptop can fit the bill.

My preference, accordingly, would be a W530, with the HDD removed (and put in an external enclosure for the all-important task of backup, or used in your gaming PC as its HDD!), and a SSD fitted in its place. A HDD in a modern laptop is practically a crime against humanity.

These two requirements are incompatibile. Gaming & light weight.

Gaming laptops are in a class known as desktop replacement laptops ... powerful, weight not an issue, as it is designed to be sit on a desk for occassional portability.

Walking around portability, requires the lightest possible weight. For college, one will be carrying the laptop around campus from 9am - 12am and beyond some days.

IMO ... anything larger than a 13.3" laptop is too heavy for college/university mobility. Combined with the laptop, there may need be need to carry course note(s), text book(s), etc. (Study session in library with groups after midnight)

If gaming is a must, have a desktop PC + a laptop.

Personally, I like 14 inch laptops for portability and good performance at ~5 pounds. For some moderate gaming, you can look at Lenovo Ideapad Y-series. If no gaming, I would look at Lenovo Thinkpad series...better build quality, but weak graphics.

14 inch Lenovo Y460p/Y470p (both are referred to...typo?) $699 or cheaper via EPP
