Danby $88 at Walmart
LG $98 at home depot
Garrison or Gree at Canadian tire
Facto at Rona
I'm lost with all these cheap brands. I just need a unit which will fit a small window, which is quietest out of all the cheap units available. It will go into a 150sq ft bedroom so 5000 btu is enough. New baby needs to stay cool!
Can someone make a recommendation because finding reliable reviews is impossible.

Check the technical specs of each unit, and look for the one with the lowest dba rating
But in the price range you are looking at they will all be really loud

I'm not sure I would recommend putting an A/C inside the babies' room ... especially such a small room.
I would put a larger A/C outside and blow cool air into the room.
Really any of those units are likely fine. These new units are quite quiet and effective. For $100 we cannot exepct too much.

Interesting question. We need to find a way to cool our babies room as well.
The comment of having a larger unit outside the room and blowing in cool air won't work for us as we have 3 cats who can not be in our son's room while he is sleeping ...

Same for us we have a cat and a German shepherd and we sleep with doors closed. I got a Walmart gift card so I'll likely buy the danby $88 one and report back to you guys.
As long as its not blowing directly on the baby it should be ok from what I'm reading online.
Certainly better than humidity and overheating considering our baby is swaddled

Was just at Rona in Oshawa and saw a Frigidaire cra052xt7 for $119. It's only 5000 btu. Is this a good choice? Vs say, 5200 btu Facto (Rona brand) for $97?

As a rule of thumb, 12000 BTU is suggested to 600-700 sqft.
5000 vs 5200 = 250-292 vs 260-303 sqft
I don't think you will see too much difference.
I would check other features. Checking noise (dBA), Air flow (cfm), vent control, filter, and modes might help separate the pack.
Have you considered a ceiling fan?

I have a ceiling fan, one in living room and one in bedroom but it's not enough.
Problem is I can't find Dba info on the $88 danby. I have found that the Facto (which looks exactly like the danby) is 52db inside.

Im going to guess that if the don't list it, then they don't want you to know. I'd go with the Rona and see if you can get a 15% off coupon.

So I got the facto (rona brand) unit installed yesterday. It works great, it's quiet for sure. Perfect for a bedroom. GOt it for $97 plus tax in Trenton, normally $109. 5200 btu, mechanical controls and only left and right supply air adjustments but who cares.
Looks IDENTICAL to a Danby DAC5211M unit, which sells at Walmart for $129.
I believe it is just another name Danby sells under.
