Does anyone have any experience with tree trimming policies in Hamilton? I have two trees in my backyard that are beginning to push against the lines running in the back. I contacted Hydro, and they said their lines are run in the front of the house, so they don't get involved. I contacted the City who said the trees are on my private property, so they don't get involved. Both Hydro and the City said it was likely Bell or cable (Cogeco?) lines in the back.

I'm just trying to look for proper procedure here, whether or not they (Bell, Cogeco) are actually supposed to do something, and who is responsible for what. I haven't contacted Bell or Cogeco yet, but I thought I would try to get an idea of what I can expect. Thank you!

Neither Bell or Cogeco are in any danger of being shorted out by tree limbs.....generally one would not worry about it.

There should only be cause for concern if there is an imminent risk of the telephone or cable lines being pulled down by a falling branch. Even if that happens, it's no big hardship for most and waiting a few days for a repair is generally less trouble than hiring (& paying) a contractor for tree trimming.

Bell/Cogeco are reactive, not proactive when it comes to things like this.

They will not do anything until there is an interuption in service and people call in to complain.

Thank you for your responses. Part of the reason I was concerned was that my neaighbour told me she had heard that there are liability issues if we allowed the trees to grow against the wires and there were damage as a result. I thought that sounded a little strange, but I'm a new homeowner, so I really don't know about these things.
