Looks like there may be some Saab deals - if you find a dealer in Canada getting any
Wouldn't mind getting a 9-4x at half price

Nope they're starting fresh now. They are bought by a some Swedish electric car company which is owned by the Japs and the Chinese (Hong Kong). But they don't have the licenses to build on GM's platforms so the current 9-3, 9-5 and 9-4x are gone.
Sad.. the latest 9-5 was actually a nice car. I hope Saab can pull through and make nice cars again.

Weren't these the cars that were designed after fighter jets or something?

Inspired by the fighter planes that the company originally built maybe, but designed after might be a stretch.
Although having the ignition switch on the floor has an aviation flavour.
A heavily discounted new 2010 Saab could be a smart car choice for someone who likes being different, wants a driver's car, and is confident parts will be available in the future.
Too bad that a car company that had so many safety and engineering firsts had to suffer the same fate as Saturn, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, etc. who didn't bring much at all to the party.

Heh. True. They only shared ads with fighter jets, there's no secret fighter jet tech in there. But they were fairly nice cars in general. Built tough.

Funny now iirc Cadillac uses the 2.8 turbo engine from the Saab Aero class engines, which to me is very GM. Buy a brand, manage it poorly and then take away the useable technology before dumping it.
IMO, some rich Chinese company should buy the whole company, ditch all the car with GM platforms (Elipson I and II), and let the Saab engineers develop a completely new one. Obviously, you need quite a rich and patient parent company to do that, but I think there is sure to be a few of such Chinese companies out there. The Chinese car industry does not lack money, they lack the skill, knowledge and technical knowhow. Saab with its engineers should be able to complement nicely.....
I like Saabs, they just look different. And after watching the Top Gear tribute to Saab, i understand they make safe cars too.....

This will be great if true, I would like to buy a new Saab 9-5 with the turbo V6 and manual tranny for 20k.

Why don't we take this time to learn a little about Saab history by none other than the old boys of Top Gear!

I'm sure there's some fact in there..... Somewhere...
If the price is right I wouldn't mind picking one up, but I don't think the remaining ones will last long. They're pretty beautiful cars and if you take anything from that Top Gear segment, these cars are built like tanks.

THey did that because peoples' knees get mangled by the key in some collisions. I don't know why all manufacturers don't do it, although the keyless ignition systems are slowly obsoleting traditional keys.
Saab is a great loss to the global car community. They went all-turbo years ago, long before other manufacturers.

As much as I hate to see another auto maker bite the bullet Saab has been on death row for decades and I'm honestly surprised its lasted this long. Bear in mind it's been in decline since the original 900 back in the 80s. You can spend all day blaming the long list of owners, investors and subsidiaries but the Saab brand never really caught on nor will it catch on in the future I suspect. The niche it had carved out for itself was replaced swiftly by the VW group and BMW and never regained.
Time to put it to bed I think. Good deal if you can get one at half price thought.
