Hi guys,

So I am just looking for some recommended brands for case fans for my Antec 1100. Unfortunately unlike my Antec 900, it only came with two fans - rear 120MM and top 240MM (I think). From my old case, I tried using two of the front fans to mount in the front but unfortunately it doesn't fit in the front of the 1100. Then for the side panel to cool the motherboard from the back I put one fan I had a spare, 120MM but its TOO loud. For the side panel I have two fans from the Antec 900 and using them as an exhaust and intake and luckily they have a speed controller but if kept high they make noise.

Any how so basically, I am looking for 3 fans that are quiet at high rpms and don't give off that loud/semi high pitched noise.

Depends on your hearing and what you consider loud, but if it is an older fan I can see how it could be making noises as the bearings are on the way out.

Panaflo and Vantec stealth fans were considered to be very quiet last time I checked, but that was a few years ago when I built my rig.

This particular fan isba cooler master and I bought it a month back. What's worse is when the rpms are fluctuating it sounds pretty annoying like there's strain to it.

Yeah, I would definitely replace it if it is that annoying. Coincidentally, I had a CM heatsink and case fan that developed a similar issue to what you described. One of them also made a terrible revving sound when booting up, then a wub wub wub sound before returning to normal. It was annoying enough to disconnect it and deal with a slightly higher temps

Hmm I've heard they're pretty quiet. Do they come with speed controllers or in LED flavours? Also is it possible to actually hear/test them out in a shop before purchasing them? Someone else's "comfort zone" with noise might be different that mine.

Ya this one i.e the Cooler Master is hella loud. I could hear it in my family room which is on the other side of the house on the main level.

I guess for now I'd swap it out with the Antec fan from my old case and keep that the lowest speed. If I keep it at medium or high, oh boy its gonna get loud heh.

PS, do any of the Sycthe or Yate Loons come with 4 pin connectors? I am wondering if they don't have speed controllers I can connect it to the mobo and then control the rpms there no?

Hmm will look at it. Thanks and thanked.

For the fan speed control, is it a short cable attached to it with a tiny switch? Where you select Low/Med/Hi?

It has a potentiometer for the fan speed and a momentary switch for led colors. The cable is quite long for both.

Sycthe and Noctua user here and definitely recommend both in terms to silence.

Hmm will look at those brands.

By the way, so I found out what the specs of my Cooler Master side fan are: 2000RPM, sleeve bearing (these are noisy I heard?) and the noise is 19dB-A. Could that explain the loud noise?

Im using Xigmatek and Gelid fans.

Xigmateks for my case fans and Xig/Gelid fans for my rad fans. Both push a good amount of air, but i find the Gelid more quieter at the same RPM range than my Xigmateks. I also use the Gelids for my dad's computer.

This is for my case:

A vote for the Scythe Kama Flow2 and Scythe Gentle Typhoon series.
Ditto for the Noctua brand as well.

Nexus is quiet but negative feedbacks, due to quality control? issues, is not uncommon.

Will take a look at those. The first link seems nice. Less RPMs and less noise compared to my Cooler Master one that I have now. Is it a 3 pin or 4 pin? Was looking at 4 pins so I can attach it to my motherboard and then control the RPM speed and such. However 3 pin is also fine.

The Xigmateks, no PWM.

However, the Gelids have PWM's.

Hmm. Still haven't bought a case fan yet but now I have to edit the title a little. Ordered a Cooler Master CPU heatsink on sale for $20 at NCIX weekend sale and now I don't want to use the Cooler Master 120MM fan it comes with, and of course I can add another fan.

So the question is what two fans should I use for a push/pull configuration.

The heat sink in question:

you would want a fan with good static pressure... i would recommend scythe gentle typhoon or SFLEX
