Hi, I'm not sure this post belongs to this forum..but I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me a little bit about this area. I found a place to rent 2 blocks away from the subway station, I like it and the price is good. I would like some info in terms of security or any other thing that could be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Depends if it's 2 blocks east or west. I'm thinking it's west, due to the lower rent.
That area (west of Eg West station) is nicknamed Little Jamaica and is pretty run down. Not too bad during the day but a little rowdy at night. Take a stroll around there on a Fri/Sat night sometime when the weather is nice and see for yourself.
Is the place for rent an apartment building or a house? There are lots of well kept houses in that area but there are some real dumps too. If it's an apartment building, let me know the address and I can tell you how decent it is, as I've been in most of them in that area.

Thanks for the reply!
The place is located on atlas avenue (atlas/gloucester grove), two blocks west from the subway. It is a basement in a house, but it's clean and fully renovated. I would be sharing it with another girl. My concern is exactly how the ares is at night when I have to go back home after classes or on the weekends. I see there is a police station in front of the subway, so I assume it shouldn't be bad, right?

Atlas near Eglinton should be fine, esp in a house and within a 5 mins walk of station.

lived there (oakwood / dufferin) a while, just avoid any late night trip, especially if is not on the well lit road. during daytime should still be fine.

During the day is fine but at night stay East of Winona (Coffee Time is the border)...unless you want BBQ or haircuts @ 4am :D. Seriously tho...I've driven past on the way home some nights and that stuff smells good!

Terrible neighbourhood, and i tell you in Forest hill a few block over it just as bad!!! But the houses cost millions.
This area is typical of government corruption.
1) The Allen just stops, like gee there is no hwy anymore well just put the traffic along Eglinton. If think about you will realize that the Allen Ex must continue south to St.clair, it SHOULD but it does not due to corrupt of rich people in Forest Hill. Instead it creates a massive mess of traffic and smog.
2) Parking on Eglinton. Man o' man -again corruption. It is absolutely insane to cut off one lane in the congested area. Insanity.
3) Crime. Not surprising corruption leads to crime.
This whole area seems to spread up along Duffrin and now Bathurst st north has turned bad.

Blame the residents... they canned got the Allen Express Way canned in the 60s or 70s. Now we're ALL paying for the traffic jam and lack of highways in Toronto.
