I am going to look at an apartment tomorrow that requires tenant insurance and I am curios about how much insurance would cost me. I am not sure if it matters, but I don't have any "valuables" and all my possessions (once I buy furniture) will likely have a value of less than a $1000 combined. I don't really care about the contents coverage because nothing I have is really worth replacing, but I guess the liability coverage is probably what the landlord is more interested in anyways. How much should I be looking at paying? Thanks.

You can get it for under $200/year.

I don't think you can even get contents coverage of less than $20,000. But if you think about replacing EVERYTHING you own (if there was a fire), you will find that $1000 would not be nearly enough!

Hahah you are probably right, $1000 might be a bit of an underestimate. Thanks for the reply.

Good post!

Tenant insurance normally runs somewhere between $15-$40/month.

If you have a good landlord, ask them if they can get you a deal. I can get my tenants a good price and a 10% discount using my insurance provider. I try to help my tenants save as much money as possible.
