My moTher earlier this year bought a 55" LCD tv and gave a good friend of mine a 52" Sony wega dlp tv (for free).
It just started making a buzzing noise and no picture comes up on the tv. Is this most likely just the lamp?
I don't know the model # of the tv but hell get it for me, but of it is just the lamp where would be the best place to order from and what is the average cost? I assume it's easy to replace?

You should never play tech support for a gift IMO.
The only way that I can think of fixing this TV is calling out a technician to take a look.

I have a Samsung and it does the exact same thing. When I researched the issue it seems to be caused by the dlp colour wheel. You can find them on ebay. I never fixed mine, just bought a new tv. I still have the old one and it still whines when it gets used. I think there are instructions out there on fixing it yourself but I have no idea how difficult it is.

With a Samsung DLP, plan on replacing the wheel if the lamp goes. Known issue, apparently. Access panel on rear of TV, look for part # and Google cheapest prices.

Check to see if the fan near the lamp is working. I've seen it where the TV makes the noise because it is protecting the lamp from burning out.
Where are you located? I can refer you to someone if you're not interested in trying to fix it yourself. Globalsemi.com is the site where you can buy parts from. Mostly everyone buys from there when they need parts for TVs.

yeah those were common problems with DLP's. the buzzing noise is from the color wheel and no picture means dead lamp. the cost of parts to replace both plus labor wasn't worth it, so I just bought a new lcd tv instead. i suspect sony parts would be even more $$$. but figure that out first before deciding to trash the tv.
