I guess it depends on the product.

What's the product? Did the manufacturer do the refurbing? Did the product ever reach the hands of the consumer?
A good case in point would be Apple products - from what I've been told, a refurb product from the Apple store is like new as they replace everything (of course, their refurbs aren't cheap). On the other side, there are some Apple refurbs that probably wasn't refurb'd by Apple that are in terrible shape but they were cheap!

A fair number of refurb computers and/or electronics have only a 90 warranty. Lenovo laptops are the rare exception...they typically have a 1 year warranty.

like what the above member said, depends on the type of product.
if the product contains a lot of components, especially with a lot of electronic parts
then it is not a good idea to buy one.
I know, I work in a electronic manufacturing company.
our RMA department receives defective products, fixes them, usually involve rewiring, replace defective parts and such.
then the company either sends these products out as refurbs in the sales channel or if it's a small batch,
they are kept for warranty replacements.
