I think that the X20's were only the irons.....I had seen the X20 irons at a local Costco when they were priced at $299 when they were first on display.
$250 is too low for a decent quality complete set of clubs IMO. All you are going to get at $250 is a Top Flite/Founders/Jazz set or similar. Wilson is probably your best bet at this lower price range. Here are two Wilson sets in the $250-$300 price range. You still need to buy a bag (cart or stand) and a couple of clubs (putter and sand wedge) with either set.

http://www.golftown.com/Wilson-Fat-Shaft-FSX-11pc-Set-P984.aspx#.T-8sRXXAt2o
Sportchek has the Powerbilt Grand Slam 16 pc complete set for $279....bag included. Another Powerbilt TPS complete set is also $279 with bag included. Powerbilt is one of the better lower end brands IMO...prefer this over Top Flite, Jazz, Ram or Founders. I would rank Wilson over Powerbilt however....Wilson is an average to lower top end brand among golf clubs...a few pros play them including three-time major winner, Padraig Harrington.

That Kijiji set is a mix of no-name clubs. I would avoid it.
Dunlop is in the same league as Top Flite and the other lower end brands. $399 is way overpriced....regular price should $299. $239 is a good price....probably comparable to the Powerbilts and maybe the Wilsons.
This is a big brand name driver and putter, no sure about the irons (older model?):
http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=97512
Kijiji has other sets that look interesting (my French isn't very good):

Yes. It's a good, entry level set of golf clubs....assuming all clubs are in good condition. No bag is shown. One thing to note is the shafts....looks like graphite....but a bit thicker looking??? Most irons are steel. Graphite shafted irons are good if you are older (senior) or have joint issues (easier on the human body). Would need better pictures of all clubs and bag to make a better, informed decision.
This set is also good if you can negotiate the price down to $175 or so....nice looking bag too. Assume steel shafted irons.

If that used Wilson set isn't available, then the new Dunlop set from Canadian Tire at $239 is likely your best bet under $250.

I agree with Dave - get the used Wilson set if you can. If you do get the Dunlop set and are serious about golf you will probably grow out of it in a season or two. But it's fine to learn on and if you do find that you are serious about golfing you can then start putting a set of what you like by upgrading piece by piece.
My irons were custom built for me by my husband a few years ago, my putter is a wierd no-name that I bought years ago in the states but I love it, my 3 and 5 woods are Calloway Big Berthas and I just scored a used Taylormade Superfast 2.0 driver on Ebay for $62!

Used golf clubs in good condition are the best cheaper way for golfers to obtain their clubs (some risk however). Currently, I have three sets....2 of the iron sets were in the $150-$175 range each including shipping from Ontario to BC (one set was new, golf etailer's last set).
If you are not in a hurry, keep an eye on the For Sale sections at http://www.torontogolfnuts.com and http://forum.ottawagolf.com The only caveat is that a fair number of the golf clubs for sale or trade are oriented towards an intermediate or an advanced golfer....so a lot of research into golf club reviews or knowledge on the type of clubs (beginner/intermediate/advanced). For beginners, look for cavity backed or very forgiving irons (eg. ultra game improvement or super game improvement). Avoid blades, TP, or tour irons....these are for advanced golfers. Shaft flex is important too....a quick way to determine is to find out which flex is to determine which iron you use to hit a 150 yard shot...6 or 7 iron (regular flex), 8 or 9 (stiff flex), 5 or 4 iron (senior flex). For a driver, go with a higher loft (11-12 degree) if you are having issues getting the ball into the air. 10.5 degree drivers are common in both regular and stiff flex. 9.5 degree (and lower) are often stiff or very stiff (drive the ball 250-300+ yards).

Golf balls....spend on cheaper box sets...$1/ball or less. If you play a lot, consider recycled balls from Knetgolf. WM has good deals on recycled golf balls...by the bag I think. Mark your balls with a coloured marker (good for identifying your balls when they misplayed or "lost" among other golf balls).

Looks like a good deal....looks to be on par with the Dunlop set at CT.
I have an Orlimar golf cart bag....it's a very good quality bag. I think that Orlimar was bought out by another manufacturer/distributor a few years ago. I bought my bag before they switched....looks like that their quality is not as high as before. With Costco, if you don't like the product, I would assume that they would take it back without any questions (this is applicable to their store items, not so sure about their online stuff).

Have you thought about doing the Replica (Clone) Clubs at all? A friend of mine purchases a set last year to upgrade from his costco set, besides re-gripping them and adjusting length slightly they are pretty damn nice clubs for the price....
I am pretty sure he grabbed them off of http://www.diamondtour.com/
Just incase you don't know much about the clone world of clubs, here's a good read:
http://www.mygolfspy.com/clone-golf-clubs-vs-name-brand/
They really can be the best bang-for-buck clubs. (and most often are). I should also mention - personally I would do Clone Irons, then find a real driver on CL, or something of the like.

You should be a regular.....so look for clubs with a regular flex. Stiff flex are for those who would typically hit a 8 or 9 iron for a 150 yard shot.
For her, ladies flex should be fine. This WRH set is a bit overpriced...$125 at most if all clubs/bag are in good condition. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/spo/3073840025.html

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/for/3133637830.html
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/for/3079400486.html
Beginner irons typically have a thicker top line (when you look down on the club at the address position....just before you start swinging the club). Beginner irons typically have cavity back....weighting is aimed around the perimeter. Advanced players often like muscle backs or blades which have a thin top line....this allows them to shape or work the ball. Beginners just want to hit the ball as straight as possible....that's why they are very forgiving (large sweet spot...mishits go some distance). Blades are not forgiving (sweet spot is small)....but let you know when you mishit a shot. Beginner irons don't typically give you much feedback on how you hit the shot.
Both those links are really old clubs.
Unless you really swing fast, regular or uniflex irons are what you should look for. Stiff shafts are for fast swingers (8 or 9 iron on a 150 yard shot). Look for drivers with a higher loft (11-12 degree if you have a hard time getting the golf ball into the air)...standard is 10.5 degrees and regular flex. Fast swingers typically hit 9.5 degree or lower lofted drivers (with stiff shafts). Beginners like hybrids...easier to hit (not me).
Big brands include: Callaway, Taylormade, Ping, Titliest, Cobra, Nike, Cleveland, Adams, Mizuno, Odyssey, Wilson Staff, Ben Hogan
Lesser brands include: Founders Club, Dunlop, Wilson (not Wilson Staff), Top Flite, Powerbilt

All are name brands...ad has it at $150 OBO. Personally, I would knock a bit off and see what the seller says. Otherwise, $150 is still a good deal for brand name clubs (Nicklaus irons are a lesser brand however...TM putter is well known).
That Ben Hogen iron set with a Mizuno bag is another good deal (knock a bit off too)...looks like the BH-5 model which is basically the Callaway X-14's....I prefer these over the Nicklaus irons. You would probably need to add woods and other clubs for a full set.

If they are in good condition, a definite yes....Di9's are probably better than those irons listed above (Cleveland Launcher irons might be similar...BH-5 are good too). They were on clearance at Golftown for $250 for quite some time before they were placed on a one day sale at $175 plus tax....all 20+ sets were gone very quick. They were originally listed at over $800 when they were introduced in 2009.

Clicgear and Sun Mountain are high end. Bag Boy is also another good brand. Cadie is entry level. I have both the Cadie 2 wheel (pull) and Clicgear 3 wheel (push). If you like to push, get a 3 wheeler. If you like to pull, get a 2 wheeler. For a quick round, I prefer the Cadie pull cart. When playing a nice full course (championship), I prefer the Clicgear push cart. You will get a lot of looks if you get a Clicgear.
Costco sells a 3 wheel push cart for around $100....looks to be a knockoff of the Clickgear. Not sure of the brand.
Sport Chek has a Bag Boy pull cart for $89.

Everything is used but in good condition and cost me 350$ for all.
I'm happy with my set! i really think going used is the way to go for a first set.
It cost me around the same as a brand new lower end golf set.

That's a great looking set! Well done!
I'm still looking to add to my set... only have irons so far lol.
If you or DavidY have any suggestions over what type of putter i should be looking for, please let me know! I saw these which seem to be decent off a quick search on CL:

Putters are quite subjective. It's all about feel and such. Try out as many putters at Golftown as you can. The main styles are: blade and mallet. 2-ball is another...maybe a modified mallet. Putter length is critical too....often 33, 34 or 35 inches. Changing a putter's length after purchase will cost you a trip to a clubfitter....so get the length right the first time. The putter is the most important club in your bag.....you will use the putter on every hole (unless you manage to chip in).
This bag looks like a decent buy...not sure if it's a stand bag or a cart bag (picture doesn't show):

First bag looks like a stand bag to me - I think I can make out the legs and it does have the double carry strap. I just bought a Sun Mountain C-130 cart bag and a Sun Mountain push cart off of Kijiji for $99 last week.

Hi, I'm looking for advice.
I'm new to golf and I'm wondering if you have suggestions for golf clubs/set for beginner, petite, female.
I don't want to spend too much money because I still live on a student budget.
Thanks!!

My set is finally getting there, now I just need a hybrid and maybe a lob wedge. How do I go about selecting hybrids? You're a wealth of knowledge David :)

What's in your set so far?
Hybrids are quite subjective IMO. I have several hybrids, but only really play one 19 degree hybrid/5 wood (Infiniti). I typically have a hard time hitting my other hybrids (Nickent 3DX)...which are suppose to be easy to hit. Surprisingly, I hit my 3 and 4 irons better than my hybrids. I have a set of wedges, but hardly play them....even my sand wedge doesn't come out of my bag very often.

Wilson Staff Di9s for my irons (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, AW, GW), an odyssey 2 ball dfx putter, a big bertha warbird 10 deg driver, and that ogio bag you gave me a link to from kijiji :)
I have an old sand wedge, but i wish the Di9 set came with a sand wedge versus an AW/ GW as they're kind of in between. I am not pressing to get a hybrid I guess as I haven't gone passed using my 6 iron really.
EDIT:
What do you use when you're just off the green? I feel I'm more accurate with a SW or LW versus a PW/AW.

Also a beginner Lefty here. I have a Diablo driver which got me to where I am now, wanting to get into the game and not just pound em at the range. I'm in the KW area and I've been looking at these few on Kijiji:

I can also get a set of Callaway RAZR X HL Iron Set new from the states, shipped for $361.81.
Any recommendations?

Taylormade Burner Plus irons are for a 10+ handicap golfer. Probably not forgiving enough for beginners....good incentive to make you work for it. $200 is a good price if in good condition.
At $200, Nike Ignite 2 irons are overpriced. Should be around $140-$150 if in good condition...a bit more than $150 if in excellent condition. For mid to high handicapper (i.e., good for beginners to intermediates).
$275 Taylormade golf clubs...no details on which irons, etc. Can't comment further.
This set looks like a good deal (pretty loud colour however...Founders Club are the entry level set sold typically by Golftown):

You can probably find a Di9 SW on ebay...won't likely be cheap however. I like using my 7 iron for a lot of short shots around the green (probably my SW if the rough is somewhat deep around the green)...7 iron is my favourite club. I know that I should be using my SW more often. Just use whatever works.

Great advice Dave!
Personally, if I am off the green and on the fairway I will use any of the following
1. PW for short shots that I want to check up
2. 3 hybrid or 3 iron if I want to roll it out on the green (the loft on these clubs will promote a run)
3. Putter - If I am really close, it will usually turn out better a chip shot
If I am in the rough it will be a 7 or SW depending on how bad the rough has got the ball.

i've been using my GW mostly or even my SW (even on normal lies not in the rough). I always tend to overhit the hole using the PW, just doesn't seem like i get enough loft and goes too far. I guess it's with practice :)

In a lot of cases the modern GW is using PW loft.. I try not to get caught up too much with the specific club. Just use the club that works best for you.

looking for some hybrids and was wondering what everyone thought about the 2/3 hybrids from ben hogan. Seems like a relatively cheap hybrid with decent reviews. Anyone with other suggestions for hybrids or even wedges (Gap/ Sand/ Lob), feel free to chime in :)

That particular club is overpriced at Ebay. PGA Value Guide has this used hybrid, in good condition, in the low to mid $20 range. http://valueguide.pga.com/detail-exec/product_type/209/brand/2665/model/45914/shaft_type/2/show_details/0/tab/resale/p/Hybrid/b/Ben%20Hogan/m/Edge%20CFT%20Hybrid
Looks very much like my Infiniti 19 deg hybrid.
Have a pair of Nickent 3DX Genex hybrids for my #3 and #4...can't hit them very well.....I usually go back go to my Infiniti hybrid or my #3/#4 irons which are not easy to hit either.

I would recommend that you give the Adams golf hybrids a try. They offer a good variety from the high handicap over-sized sticks right up to the XTD's which are very popular on tour. Also, check the GT daily deal as they have been going on sale from $20-$50.
With regards to wedges - most iron sets already include a PW & GW. If you want to keep costs down pickup a SW to begin. I would recommend going into a store and hitting different loft & bounce combos to figure out what has the best feel. Your wedges are scoring clubs and will be used in a variety of situations. Make sure that you're comfortable with the full/half/chip shots. I wouldn't recommend a lob wedge right away as a 60+ degree club can be difficult to hit.
Good luck.

I have had 5 sets of irons over the years...all were 3-PW. This has been a standard for quite some time now. Newer irons can drop the #3 and sometimes #4....and may add a SW....most irons are sold as 7 or 8 club sets typically.
I have a set of three matched forged wedges (Raven)...52 deg, 56 deg and 60 deg. The only wedge in my bag is the 56 deg (SW). Keep it simple method. I think that only advanced players should more wedges.
