Anyone have an area Shag Rug in their living room? If so how do you like it so far in terms of feel on the feet and cleaning?

Also what king would you advice to get and from where? I see IKEA carries some

Had one in the 70's.
Feels good under foot. Hides all sorts of dirt, even large things like whole cookies, marbles etc. Some shags are large enough to house small animals. Requires a garden rake to "comb" the shag. Kills (or burns out) vacuum cleaner carpet brush attachments.
Other than that, it's the latest fashion revival (can hardly wait for platform shoes, shirts with puffy sleeves and leisure suits to come back.....;))

Ditto. I had shag rugs in both my first apartment and my first house back in the 70's. I absolutely hate shag as a result. It's extremely difficult to clean and it seems to shed a lot. You constantly have to use that rake to fluff up the pile. I recall things like paper clips and small coins getting lost in the pile. Ugh!

Costco has some that aren't huge and might be a good bet. I wouldn't put them in any high traffic areas or where you will be eating and drinking. Stepping out of bed onto a shag rug is something nice though.

Have one in the living room. It feels nice under the feet. It is also very forgiving when it comes to dirt. I find there is no need to vacuum often as any specks of lint/dirt are not easily seen. I would recommend the ones that are 100% nylon fibers as this will stand up to heavier traffic over a longer period of time and not get flattened down easily. I also recommend one that has fibers twisted in such a way that the shag tends to keep its uniform appearance even when walked on and not show flattened footprint marks. Mine is more of a short shag and does not require any raking. Very happy with my purchase as it is low maintenance.

Forgot to add, I got mine from the same company that makes the "Manhattan Shag Rug" that is being sold at Urban Barn. Mine is similar if not the same thing.

We have the Costco one (8x10) in our family room. It's great for the kids to play on because it's soft, and very comfortable with bare feet. For us, it has not shed at all, so it's been very low maintenance. We've been very happy with it!

Thanks to those that added a positive input....anyone got pics of their rug to share?

Paid a fair amount but it was great when my daughter was learning to walk

It's hard to vacuum and too warm in summer.

Thinking of getting a summer rug as soon as i finish the basement, and keep the shag for winter.

Cheers !
