Just to satisfy my curiosity, I have been looking at the OLG games, and Keno seems to have the best odds out of all of the other games (i.e. Lott Max, Lotto 639, etc). On OLG's website it notes the following with respect to limits of liability:

OLG limits the total amount payable for prizes per draw in each of the 22 prize categories to $4 million. Should the aggregate of the prizes available to be won by all winning tickets in any prize category result in the prize category limit being exceeded, the prizes of the category are determined in proportion to the amount that would, except for this provision, otherwise have been available to be won on the winning selections of the category.

Just want to confirm the $4,000,000 maximum payout is PER DRAW, and not $4,000,000 for EACH of the 22 prize categories. If the maximum were for each category, the maximum payout per draw would be $88,000,000.

Having reviewed quite a few of the previous winnings per draw, it appears the $4,000,000 maximum is never hit (or at least very rarely), yet when they show some of the Keno winners, they do not appear to have won the full amount they should have been entitled to collect. For example, the following is one such winner:

$10,000
9 PICK, $2 bet

Accordingly to the payout chart, this winner should have collected $100,000, yet he only collected $10,000. I guess it is possible the $4,000,000 maximum was hit and they scaled back his prize amount, yet this seems very doubtful. Does anyone know if OLG limits payouts based on actual sales for each draw, and if the sales are poor, the payouts are scaled back?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any insight on this topic.

Based on my understanding of the rules, the $4 million cap is per prize category and per draw. Therefore the maximum payout for a single draw is $88 million.

The best way to avoid being affected by the cap is to avoid playing number patterns. For example, if you choose to play the Pick 10 option, do not play the numbers 1, 2, 3, ... 10.

The person who won $10,000 with a 9 Pick and $2 ticket, probably played the 10 Pick game. It pays $5,000 for matching 9 of the 10 numbers for a $1 ticket and $10,000 for a $2 ticket.

Good luck.

Wow, $88 million for one draw, and there are two per day. That is a lot of money. Tell me people don't love to gamble :D

The $88 million is a theoretical maximum payout and will most likely never happen.

Good luck.
