I recently test drove an 08 Acura TL with 57,xxx kms from AutoPark Fonthill.

This is what the CarProof states:

It says it has 1 claim record, but for $0. AutoPark doesn't know what the claim was for either.

Opinions? Should I keep looking?

Thanks in advance!

**UPDATE**

I noticed the CarProof showed coverage data as follows:

09/2009-09/2010: Cancellation
10/2011-10/2012: Renewal

I also note that according to the CarProof, the insurance was cancelled on 09/21/10 and a new policy wasn't renewed until 10/30/2011 but on 04/08/2011 the damage claim is listed. How can that be?

I pulled the VIN history from the MTO and it shows as follows:

Plate: ATBA 737
Plate attached 08-02-07
Plate removed 09-10-31

Plate BHKE 052
Plate attached: 09-10-31
Plate removed: 11-12-06

Status: Inactive
Type: Fleet
Honda Canada Finance
Address: 3650 Victoria Park Avenue, North York
Vehicle Registration Date: 08-02-07

Then it was registered with Auto Park on 12-01-18

I'm having the car checked out by my mechanic mid-week, but should I be concerned with any of the information listed above?

The original owner got into an accident, called his/her insurance but then decided to pay for the damage out of his own pocket.
The Insurance Co made the report but paid $0.0 out so all that exists is the claim itself.

I'll speculate his insurance probably discussed increases in rates etc if his Insurance actually paid for the claim
or... it may be something as simple as a windshield crack/chip and he may have had a fairly high deductible so it made more sense to just pay it himself without going through insurance.
There could be a number of things but you won't know unless you actually contact the previous owner.

Obvious course of action to me seems to be get a mechanic to inspect the car for any serious collission damage.

The 3rd gen TL is a great car, my friend owns one.

I would call an Acura dealer's Service Department and have them run the VIN for you to see if there are any service records. It might not give you any insight into the accident itself, but it will give you an idea as to whether the vehicle was maintained at a dealership, if it was in for warranty work etc.

I agree that the person had an accident, was going to put it through insurance but decided against it and paid for it themselves. What kind of dealership is AutoPark? I ask because the kms are this car are pretty good, if it were that great a car I would think it would have been snagged by an Acura dealership for their used car lot. I would ask myself why it wasn't.

Your mechanic will be able to shed some light for you as well ... hope it works out for you!
