Well unfortunately my Toshiba Satellite A-300 has finally bit the dust after about 5 years of pretty heavy use.

I'm looking for a gaming laptop between $400-$900 that can run modern games at medium-ish settings (Skyrim and/or Civ5 for example). I'd prefer to buy it from a retail store but online is fine.

I don't really have many requirements other than a decent battery life, screen size, and good enough specs to run games. I live in the Toronto area if that helps at all.

My overall goal is to hopefully get a better laptop than the old toshiba within that price range if it's possible. I'd hate to spend 600 bucks on a downgrade when my toshiba could barely run the games I play anyhow.

Thank you in advance, I'd be happy to answer any questions that will help me seek out a laptop.

For a 15.6 inch laptop, Lenovo Ideapad Y580 starts at around $850 or maybe less with Friends&Family/EPP thread under Hot Deals. Has an i7-3610QM and GTX 660M graphics....should do Skyrim: Elder Scrolls V in HIGH (49 fps at Notebookcheck.net)....does most games in HIGH or ULTRA.

Thank you Dave, I did see that earlier today and it's definitely among my considerations. I don't know a hell of a lot about laptop specs so I'm a little wary.

Would you recommend it at that price for my needs? (Gaming + School laptop)

If you look around, most laptops with an i7 and a GTX 660 are over $1000. You need to check out that thread in Hot Deals...see who has received them.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420 that I bought a year ago.....quite happy with it...1366x768 is only average at best.....US keyboard...business type laptop. Ideapads are not as well built as the Thinkpad series.....but they typically have better graphics for gaming. Most Thinkpads have integrated graphics. There is an option for a nVidia upgrade (not a gaming one to my understanding).
