I just went through the automated process to order cheques from my online bank. I was directed to Davis and Henderson and the total cost was $46 for 100 cheques with shipping and tax.
Are there cheaper options, this sounds like a lot?

Which bank?
Some banks like ING give free cheques.

I bought from ASAP cheques years ago, and they were extremely fast, and a lot cheaper than Davis and Henderson. The quality was similar, I believe. I'd definitely re-order from them, if necessary. (At my current rate of 1 cheque every 2-3 years, it'll be a while yet!)
If you do a search, I think there's a RFD thread on them, somewhere -- I'm pretty sure I read a good review of them before my initial purchase.

Actually they don't. They give a small supply of free cheques when you open the account, but then they charge for refills.\
AFAIK only President's Choice Financial still offers free cheques.
As for RBC, if you complain politely to your branch about D&H's rip-off prices they may give you a break. We use few cheques so a regular reprint lasts decades. When we moved to Waterloo I needed to get some cheques printed with our new address. When I saw what D&H wanted I went to my new TD branch to complain. They authorized a free reprint as a welcoming gesture. Apparently even bank branch, at least at TD, has a discretionary fund for these sorts of purposes. You won't know if yours does unless you "ask" ;)

Fair enough, I rarely use cheques, so I still got most of the 100 they sent me (I got 50 at first, called and asked for more and they sent me another 50 free).
Considering the ING promo's on right now, you can probably come out on top if you end up registering for an ING Thrive account :P

Thanks. I think I'll order from ASAP. That's about the price I was prepared to pay initially. It looks to be about half what D&H was charging.
