A Toronto police officer is lucky to be alive after being involved in an altercation with two suspects.

Police say the off-duty officer was assaulted at an apartment building located at 4978 Yonge Street near Sheppard Avenue, shortly after 11:30 a.m., Thursday.

Police say the officer suffered non-life threatening injuries to his arm.

One of the suspects is said to be armed with a gun.

The two suspects are described as male, black, in their 20's, one with a heavy build wearing a bright lime green hoodie, while the other is said to be a thinner build.

Police are searching the area for the two.

I live in his condo building and was home for lunch and saw tons of cops around the building and inside so I asked the security guard to find out what was happening and they didnt want to tell me anything and once I got back to work, i see this all over the news..

if there is an armed suspect possibly hiding in the condo building, should they not notify the residents at least to be careful or notify the police if they see the suspect??

Wouldn't they have to use the building PA system or something then (which would alert the suspect)?

If the suspect feels threatened or cornered, he/she might be more prone to acting rashly or without thinking, which could have dire consequences (especially if armed).

Might be wiser to leave him/her in a sense of false security while tracking them down.

good point.. but as someone living in the building, would it be safe for me to go to the underground garage knowing there might be an armed suspect hiding ?

but i do see your point, this would be a safer approach to actually apprehend the suspects

Houses east of the condos are expensive, but condo alley along Yonge Street has experienced it's fair share of crime.

And this crime map doesn't even show the two murders that happened this year.

In that area they shouldn't be hard to spot, but they're probably long gone back to Jane and Finch or wherever.

Being shot in the arm is only a foot or 2 away from being shot in the heart, or the head, or anywhere else that could kill somebody. I dont think its a stretch to claim that the officer is lucky to be alive.

Where does it mention about being shot? It doesn't. Although assault is a broad term in itself, being hurt by a weapon like a gun would've been mentioned.

To be honest I just assumed because they mention that a suspect was armed right before stating that the police officer was injured in the arm, it also doesnt mention any other weapon.

Well that is one huge assumption then. If there was a gunshot involved this would be all over the news big time.
