Hey guys, I'm gonna have to buy a PSU within the next 7-10 days, and I'm looking for a really good deal
what are some good PSU brands? what do you guys recommend? I need one that will be able to support me for now and the future with some moderate gaming, I'm talking CS:Global Offensive etc
I was thinking 550-600 watts, I don't think I would need more would I?
I don't wanna spend anything crazy either .. like over $100 .. just looking for a really good deal for a PSU that will last me a long time, maybe one that can support the following vid cards
radeon hd 4890
radeon hd 6870
radeon hd 7770
etc
Anything you guys recommend in particular?

80 Plus Bronze Certified.

There is a 550 watt Enermax ENP550AWT B for about $70. It's 80 Plus Gold Certified.
550 watt Rosewill CAPSTONE-550 is about $80....also 80 Plus Gold Certified.

What's the big deal with 80+ certification? It's not like it has anything to do with power, ripple or reliability.

Rosewill CAPSTONE-550 and Enermax ENP550AWT B test reports are attached:

For example, if you check Corsair's website....they advertise models that are "80 Plus Certified", "...Bronze", "...Silver","...Gold", etc.
The higher the certification, the greater likelihood of better build quality components IMO. Higher certified PS units tend to cost more too.

It's all about efficiency, whereas the criteria that I have listed are not considered.

That would be stretching it. Especially when manufacturers have been caught slapping 80+ labels on unqualified models. My point is that I would rather trust independent in-depth reviews than be guided by deceitfully simple categories created by marketers. It's not like we didn't have GHz and megapixel races before.

This.

Good points.
Some good PS brands like Corsair have been reported to make crappy PS too....I think that there have been many complaints on their Builder's Series PS...V1 in particular. Nobody out there has a perfect reliability record. I am sure that there are a few Antec customers who won't buy another Antec, etc.

I wouldn't so much pay attention to 80Plus except that if a PSU doesn't have it, I wouldn't buy it. As others have pointed out, 80Plus doesn't make it a good PSU, but are there any current PSUs that are good and are not 80Plus?
