View Full Version : ABSOLUTE # 1 Best, Most Trustworthy, Thread on RFD! (Hint: It's about webhost ads)

I've noticed there are two separate companies both advertising free webhosting for life, with the identical claim: "Most Reputable and Reliable host on RFD"

The first one is Dave's Network: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/free-web-hosting-daves-network-most-reputable-reliable-host-rfd-765035. He started his thread July 16, 2009.

Then Hostgator copied his claim: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/free-web-hosting-life-most-reputable-reliable-host-rfd-985499. They started their thread December 30, 2010.

Then there is the modest but uninflated ad by DirectHosting, which makes no pretentious claims: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/free-canadian-web-hosting-free-web-hosting-life-1177226.

My point: There can be only one of anything which can truly say "We are the most..."

So I take it that I can put up a post on RFD claiming to be just about anything I want: the most honest, the most preferred, the most respected whatever. Of course, that kind of pompous bragging will bring on a flame war, and so it should -- but that's exactly what has NOT happened on either of the two threads mentioned above.

I'm just curious about this. Your thoughts and comments are welcome.

My 2 cents on them:

1. DavesNetwork no longer provide free hosting, but from what I remember, Dave was the first one on RFD to offer this service for a long time. When I had them (while it was free), reply to tickets could take days, but server was stable enough so in general I do not need to bug them.

2. Hosterbox obviously wants to upsell (i.e., give you something for free but with limited features such as hard drive space and hope you will buy the paid plan), and you will get spam emails from them once a while (trying to sell your their paid plans), so I could not take them too seriously.

3. DirectHosting...I don't know, their website is directhosting.ca, their billing site is directbilling.me and their host panel is austin.baseservers.com, to be honest I have no idea who they are or what kind of service they run. They are using DirectAdmin as well, which cost half as much as CPanel so you can expect half as much easiness to navigate and so on.

My honest thoughts, if you want a website just to show your friends you are online, then getting any one of the 2 and 3 won't make a difference. However if you want to start a serious online business, or hope your site will make money eventually, spend a little money and get a paid service.

Zhuanyi,

Thanks for your helpful reply.
However, I'm not looking for help on webhosting providers. My focus is just as my post reads: the exaggerated and impossible claims made by some advertisers.

Regards,
Bruce.

I've been recommending my friends use Weebly for free websites, unless you need advanced functions...

Is your next target going to be "the best pizza in town" ?

Have you started a vendetta against TCBY (The Country's Best Yogurt) too?

Just found this thread over yahoo search. To answer your concerns.

-We only offer DirectDdmin for our free hosting, all of our paid hosting are cPanel based.
-Our parent company has been in the business for 9 years. More than the other two company in this thread combined.
-Directhosting was launched because we want a brand to focus on the Canadian market. Whereas our other brands are targeted internationally.
