I was going somewhere around 2am friday morning in one of my cars when i realized one of the tires was flat. No problem I thought, I'll just have it fixed in the morning. I used my other car in the mean time. In the morning, i started putting my spare on because my tire was completely flat and my neighbor came up to me and said his tire was slashed the previous night. I looked at my tire and noticed a one inch gash in the tire :(. I ended up replacing two tires (replace in pairs right?). Later on in the evening, we found out another 7-8 houses had been hit and a total of around 10 cars got one of their tires slashed.
I found out this morning my other car had a slash too, but it was holding up better than the first car.
We reported it to police too... but i'm not sure there's much they can do.
Is it smart to go through insurance to replace tires?
What a bummer. wtf is wrong with people these days?

Wow, that sucks. Having your tire slashed is probably one of the most annoying things that can happen. It's on par with someone smashing your window to steal change.

Punk kids that their parents don't control - that's what's wrong with people.

is that a bad area?
I lived there for 7 yrs and it was good. Some of my friends still live there and they are happy.
Time to install a good quality surveillance camera.

Where abouts? I live in the area, park on the driveway all the time and luckily never had any problems. I do have security cameras all over the place though.

Really sorry to hear this, the number of cowardly MAGGOTS in the world is reaching epidemic propositions.

Why weren't your cars parked in your garage?

Why weren't your cars parked in your garage? Around here, garages tend to be used for storage more often than for cars....especially for smaller homes like townhouses and semi-detached (duplex) houses. I can barely even fit my minivan in my garage when it's completely empty. :-(

Why weren't your cars parked in your garage?
... Blame the victim much?
Most people have multiple cars (sometime with a single car garage) and a driveway is a perfectly acceptable place to park your car. Heck in most older neighbourhoods there are no garages, just carports or a long driveway so don't be so judgy.
Yes there are risks obviously but the fact is it is the stupid little brats who slashed the tires who are to blame.

question was asked earlier...
if all your tires get slashed, i assume you can just go through insurance?

Surveillance cameras. One that works, a couple more dummies in very obvious places.

lol no dashcam unfortunately. I missed out on the couple of blackvue groupbuys and haven't had time since then to look around. But i thought dashcam picks up motion through an accelerometer or something and starts recording before and after? having tires slashed wouldn't have activated the dashcam... unless the cam records continuously through the night or something.

That sucks. How much does it cost to replace the tires? If it too little, then don't bother with insurance. Insurance company are in for profit. If you keep filing claim, even if it is not your fault, they will raise your rate because you are living a "high-risk" area or you are a high-risk client.

Blackvue has a motion sensor as well, so if the person had walked around the front of the car it would save the 1 minute preceeding the motion as well
Its a moot point however it seems..
But that sucks.

I empathize with you, OP. We've had to replace vehicle windows on two separate occasions, within the past year, due to vandalism. There are some scummy people out there. It doesn't seem to matter where you live these days...
