View Full Version : Toronto RFD - Deal of the Day Scams - Tablets (resolved)
figment
Jul 8th, 2012, 02:26 AM
RFD's own in house group buy site scammed me, I'll explain why.
I purchased a DNG Android Tablet from ZoomaFX through Deal of the Day back on November 26th, 2011. Sure this is a long time ago, but to date I've never even used the tablet once for what it was intended for. I didn't act as fast as I should of with the issue and I submitted a ticket asking for a refund. Deal of the Day gave me a generic response:
Hello Matthew,
Thank you for contacting Deal of the Day. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused you regarding your deal purchase.
Please be advised however, that we do not offer any refunds beyond 30 days of purchase, as stated on our terms and conditions - http://dealoftheday.redflagdeals.com/pages/globalterms.
Threrefore, the web link that you saw in the RFD forum only applies to the Tiny Tablet deal, not the ZoomaFX Android tablet deal.
Regards,
- Deal of the Day Team
What really irritates me is when I read Deal of the Day ran another Tablet promotion with TINYTINYDEAL, another "shill" company as seen here (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/7-android-tablet-tinytinydeal-garbage-1158181/?highlight=tinytinydeal) and here (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/7-android-tablet-tinytiny-through-deal-day-garbage-1174519/?highlight=tinytinydeal). The TINYTINYDEAL tablet offer ran in March, but Deal of the Day was giving out refunds pretty much in June! as seen here
(http://forums.redflagdeals.com/7-android-tablet-tinytinydeal-garbage-1158181/3/#post14818635) clearly past 30 days.
I can't believe RFD would even try to weasel their way out of this, it's obvious that TINYTINYDEAL is the new ZoomaFX and other posters within the threads I linked to provided evidence and confirmed what I am saying. I gave RFD a fair chance to settle the issue, but whenever I made a ticket they would just close it, ignore it or re-post the same generic boilerplate response! I decided I need to take action and spread my issue. I trusted RFD that they were a "good" company to buy from and screwed me.
As I write this today July 8th, I have two DOA DNG Android 7" Tablets which have never been used and will never be functional and RFD has my $129. RFD has had other scams like the SD card fraud and TINYTINYDEAL in which they take part in $$$ swindled from people who trusted them
ZoomaFX doesen't even exist anymore, they have vanished.

Comments/suggestions/criticisms welcome - especially people who also bought the ZoomaFX Tablet Deal or TINYTINYDEAL

I can't actually understand the problem from reading your post, although that might be because it's almost 3am. You bought it, and tried to return it well outside the 30 day window? Is that the short version of the story, or is there something more?

Moral of the story... Group buy deals are 99% scams, and trusting rdf to guide your purchases is quite dumb.
Don't buy cheap generic Chinese tablets from group buy sites. They are all scams

So they are DOA? Isn't there manufacture warranty?

I bought it yes, trying to get a return outside the 30 day window yes. But the other parts of the story include:
- Haven't been able to use the tablet even once for what it was intended for.
- RFD refunded other purchasers of scam tablets under TINYTINYDEAL, now claiming that because the company name is different (ZoomaFX) they won't offer up a refund
- virtually the same product, from what I can see in the TINYTINYDEAL thread
the more I look into this, the more I realize what a big scam it is. Android.net has a large thread about the same tablets being sold through Groupon and Wagjag before xmas from a company called Zoomafx. ironically, the same UPS address label for that company is the same return address I have on my UPS sticker for Tiny Tiny Deals. Lots of angry people getting scammed with these tablets all over the place and with different deal offers.
I contacted RDF and of course received the standard response to contact TinY Tiny Deals and they would assist me - no phone # just the same email address I have already sent several emails to that address that have not been answered. I will likely contact my credit card company although it may be more work than the tablet is worth. There have been several complaints filed with BBB of Canada regarding the Groupon/WAGJAG and Zoomafx and since this is the same return address it probably is related to the whole scam so I will probably add my complaint to that ever growing list.
Anyway, if your bored, google the product Super Pocket i7 and you will be surprised at just how many complaints there are about this crappy product being advertised and sold as something else.
really I knew for the price not to expect an IPAD or anything close to that but the more I find out this is a known piece of crap and thousands of people are getting scammed I just got angrier. I have no illusions of getting my money back but I will do what I can to warn other people.
Cheers!
- RFD promised to never run tablet deals again, because they know they cause problems
- RFD offered refunds to TINYTINYDEAL purchasers outside the 30 day window
- My fault was not being more proactive about seeking a refund and checking the product, but the product is still garbage and RFD sold it to me. I know its a common practice to refund a voucher if the company disappears/closes, I essentially got a rock in a box and the company/seller disappears sounds like a classic eBay scam eh?
Moral of the story... Group buy deals are 99% scams, and trusting rdf to guide your purchases is quite dumb.

Most group buy deals are scams yes, even the most informed buyer can still get deceived not saying that I was/am. I know a playbook was the better option but I purchased this on behalf of a family member. I trusted that RFD would be a good choice to buy from, I bet other good group buy sites like Wagjag and Groupon would of helped me out

There was supposed to be a 1 year warranty I think, but the company doesen't even exist anymore zoomafx.com, phone number disconnected.

So much for this, a broken product is pretty much the same as buying a group deal voucher and never receiving a service or product due to a company closing down or vanishing. As you can see there is no 30 day window on it this.

Why is it okay to refund TINYTINYDEAL users outside of the so called 30 day window but not ZoomaFX users? I quoted a post above where a user confirms that the two companies are one in the same.
I have been sending out e-mails to the usual outlets for help and I'm not going to drop the ball this time.
Since I started sending e-mails to Deal of the Day on July 4th, they have only given me a generic response twice and closed my ticket three times without a reply.

Why???? Who is accountable at RFD? Derek was a public figure. Ryan was a public figure. Now Oranr refers to RFD as the faceless 'management team'. When pressed the question was never answered.
Wake up people, stop putting your trust a once trusted name/brand gone evil and unaccountable. This is an alright forum which is why I come here every day. Anything else using the name RFD will scam you every chance they get, only because of the reputation this name has built over 10 years. Did you honestly think they are looking out for your best interest??

Was your tablet DOA? Did you open it right after receiving it? "I've never even used the tablet once for what it was intended for" is not clear. tinytinydeals/whatevercompany might be scammers, but to be honest, I won't go as far as calling RFD scammer here. perhaps you should have been a little more proactive. Anyways, hope this issue will be resolved and you will get your money back.

you waited way to long to have anyway to force a resolution. As I said on another thread, and would apply to anywhere, write right to the top - marc.tellier@ypg.com . Maybe it wont help, id be pretty certain you get a response from someone important. If you wont make an effort its not like anyone else can help you.
to be fair, if you bought something at any normal retailer, waited months and months before telling it as defective, they would tell you to get lost too

Unless you're dealing with Costco or Walmart...or any reputable brand with a decent warranty, or with a credit card that offers extended warranty protection...or...or....well basically anywhere except those overpriced deal extreme products on 'deal' sites (I use the term deal very lightly).

Maybe costco, but the others aren't going to help you many months later like this has been other then do the same thing rfd is in saying its the manufacturer problem. There has to be some limit, its not unreasonable to expect someone receiving defective item to say something before months have gone by and there still might have been a chance for rfd to go back at the vendor.. This deal was run Nov 2011

I trusted RFD well, because this site has a lot of reputation and has done me a lot of good over the years. But then again it was regular users posting and sharing deals/info which made this place great

It's pretty much DOA and I never opened the product to test it until March (big mistake) None of us could figure out how to turn it on.

About 10 minutes ago, Amanda the Operations Manager of Deal of the Day called me
She said she would be able to offer a refund. I guess the issue is resolved now and I certainly won't be making these several mistakes again (buying cheap tablets, didn't check product when it arrived, didn't complain right away)

The problem with this is that the only reason why Amanda called you is because you made noise in the forum, so now they are trying to do damage control. If they had just resolved this in private in the first place, then nobody would have had reason to question their reputation. Now the damage is already done and the few people left looking at group deals will think twice before buying from RFD DOD unfortunately

So, DOA means, DEAD ON ARRIVAL... YOu said that you couldn't use it as intended, to what means? It was not DOA if you were able to use it. And you waited 5 months to even open it? I got my refund from the TINYTINYDEAL one, but I opened my package and charged it within minutes of it being delivered. And the screen on mine was not even responsive where you could use it effectively at all! Glad you got a refund, but in the future, at least start your grievance within the time frame, let alone open the package.
