Is there a difference between this one and the one at Mobilicity for $599?

Mobilicity one does not have LTE and a slightly different modem chip iirc. Too lazy to check right now. Going out to work soon.

I bet you an app unlock is already being worked on, assuming it's not already available.

The one at Newegg is an international version, so it doesn't have LTE either, nor does it support Wind/Mobilicity's 1700 MHz 3G frequency. It does have the quad core CPU tho.

There's several versions of this phone which is kind of confusing.

Is that special korean version available in Canada?

For model numbers and functionality differences between each, just check wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III

Canada has SGH-T999 and SGH-I747.

SGH-T999 is the model for wind and mobelicity.
SGH-I747 is the model for bell and rogers.

As for the korean model availability... is it even out yet?

i haven't checked, but shouldn't it? samsung usually releases before or at the same time to its home market compared to the international market

Pretty sure the one introduced in May is OLD. There is a new one released on July 9th which has LTE + 2GB RAM + Quad core + DMV TV Tuning (whatever that is).

DMB TV is pretty much mobile TV, over-the-air.

this is the international i9300 version.
the big difference compared to what we get here.

Exynos 4212 Quad Chipset, Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, Mali-400MP GPU

we got a dual core here in canada. this is the beefy quad core cpu. the exynos is no slouch. pure power.
sure you lose LTE but quad core is the way to go people. but you gain a world phone that will work on almost any continent in 3G hence international.
to be honest a lot of ppl were very upset when they found out that canada was only getting the dual core s3. many thought this model was the one we were getting.
nice find op. ordered.

Err... the dual cores are the new Cortex A15 cores, vs the last gen A9's in the Quad. I'd be more inclined to take the newer cores, who NEEDS quad? The 2gb of ram is also better.

indeed as Zerius said above, who needs quad-core in a cellphone, unless you want it become a psp which costs like x4 price of the real one :P. I've been using galaxy s1 since a long time, with only 512mb ram, it's really struggling for running apps, so the 2GB ram version is such a big favor here and of course LTE too. However, that being said, to each their own, some people might just want to have another toy to show off the numbers :P

I don't mean to ask a potentially obviously stupid question but I just dont know the answer to this..

Rogers sell's the phone for $599 outright, why would you buy this phone for $669?

Further to this.. Is there any reason I should not just renew for 3 years with Rogers and do their flex tab thing?

Rogers has dual core version; the op posted the international quad core version.

Another reason to get the dual core would be the 50gb Dropbox bonus.

All S3 gets it...even this one. Read the detail page

Dropbox (50 GB storage)

I might just wait for the LTE Quad Core one that's supposedly coming out in Korea soon. My S2 still works fine and not sure I want my phone to be any bigger.

I hate to break it to you but from what I heard Korea uses WCDMA. They don't use sim cards. Can someone more familiar with this confirm this?

Rogers sells this phone for $599 with month to month cellphone plan. $649 with no term.

International version has Quad Core, better GPU, 1GB RAM, more updates to fix problems, and a better DAC for music.
NA version has Dual Core, LTE and 2GB RAM.

Each has their place in the market. I prefer the international version.

Ah... I didn't know that the i747 didn't have the Wolfson DAC. That would be a dealbreaker for me.

You clearly haven't used LTE, or that all the apps that you are using are non network dependent. It doesn't matter how many cores you have, the phone is still bottleneck by the network (obvious when you use wifi on your HSPA handsets now, wifi is much quicker). "Fast" or not, is all about perspective. End users really don't need to know what powers it, all they need to know is that "It's fast". In this case, dual A15 with LTE can arguably produce a better user experience given if the person has LTE plan (Switch your 6GB 3G plan to LTE for free if you are on Rogers! See the other thread).

Furthermore, when JellyBean gets ported over or Samsung pushes the update, are you really going to see the difference? I certainly find my Galaxy Nexus faster than my HOX and SGS3 in non-network apps.

Totally agree.

Spot on, I've been using LTE since November and can't go back to HSPA, it's just a far superior user experience.
LTE with the dual core snapdragon is a better experience overall than HSPA with the exynos.

These two SoC's compare pretty closely. The Quad Core is generally faster in muti-threaded tests and some gaming but falls behind in single threaded performance. Personally I would go for the dual core as it as the superior LTE radio and 2GB of RAM and slightly better battery life which is probably more useful long term.

not some gaming a lot of gaming

the dual core gets like 20-40fps and the quad core gets like 80-90fsp according to comparison reviews
