Bought a new house and we are planning to upgrade our soaker tub and standup shower in master ensuite. Soaker tub to be replaced by Whirlpool and Air jet jacuzzi while standup shower to get a frameless glass sides and door. However as with any other builder, they ask for an arm and a leg for the upgrades.

Is it better to get these upgrades later on thru a general contractor or is it better to get it from builder. Many people on other forums have pointed out the following in favour of getting it from builder inspite of higher costs:

- Need to have better re-inforced flooring to support jacuzzi instead of standard tub
- jacuzzi will be smaller then standard tub for the same space
- lot of breakage in washroom as need to extra space for jacuzzi, extra plumbing needs, special electric outlet requirements for jacuzzi, tiles will have to replaced
- covered under builder warranty and costs get added to mortgage

any ideas?????

Thanks in advance

Shower I would upgrade - i.e. get a larger shower. But the tub - we rarely use it. In fact, your water tank might not even hold enough water to fill a soaker tub!
