Perhaps some people on this forum are too young to remember him but he had long fulfilling acting career that spanned 60 years. He worked on many classic movies like From Here to Eternity, The Dirty Dozen, and the The Wild Bunch. His TV career ranged from McHales Navy and Air Wolf to SpongeBob.

He played heavies early in his career but did win the Oscar for Marty in which he protrayed a sensitive young man looking for love.

Already commented at CBC but some friends saw him at a convention a few months back and commented that he seemed pretty spry for someone 95 years old. We should all be so lucky! So much great entertainment out of him over the years: The Wild Bunch, Escape From New York, Marty, Poseidon Adventure, Willard, McHale's Navy, The Vikings, and a ton more. Other than Mickey Rooney, probably the last of the really great actors from that time period.

RIP Mr. Borgnine...

I mostly remember him in Escape from New York, but he had a small part in Gattaca, too :).

It is sad to see these people that you have "known" for many years are moving on to another life. Makes you wonder when it is your turn.
