Hey guys,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to computers!
I need to get a new hard drive for my laptop computer, are there speicific ones that work on my laptop or are they all the same?
I am running windows 7 64 bit if that makes a difference
Thanks!

Well judging if it runs Win7 64, it probably has an SATA drive. Only thing to look out for is the thickness of the drive, most laptops can only take a 9.5mm drive, though most drives out there are unless it's some earlier high capacity drives.
You're better off providing the actual model of your machine to give a more definite answer.

Make sure to get one that doesn't need plugging into the wall socket!! I made the mistake of getting a Western Digital 1 TB that needs to be plugged into the wall socket in order to work. So I have to carry a heavy power plug and more wires. Most of them nowadays just plug into your computer as if it were a USB so not to worry....but check anyways!

Yeah get a 2.5" drive next time. 3.5" drives are more power hungry so that's why they need a additional power supply.

If you are willing to pay a bit more then you can actually get an SSD.
Of get a hybrid drive: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=65149. It has better performance than the traditional HDD, though not quite up to the level of SSD's. Wait for a sale and it should be within your budget.
