So basically my dad is going through a divorce(well its already been over with for a while but I guess some legal stuff need to be hashed out) and needs proof that I was living with him from the period of Sep 2010 to July 2011 for benefits/claims or whatever it may be. During that time I was in my final year of high school, so school could be the official institution to certify my address. However the only thing I can find so far is a report card with my address on it that is dated June 30 2011, which apparently is too late. Another thing is that on the report card it shows the address that I was living at BEFORE the Sep 2010 period, because when I moved before my final year I didn't really bother telling my school about it (who could relate that to a problem like this 2 years later?) I couldn't reach the school by phone because the office is closed, I will try again tomorrow.. but in the mean time, does anyone have any solutions to my problem? Will the school be able to provide me this proof? Will the difference in address be an issue? Is there an alternate method to provide this proof?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Thanks in advance
Frank

Do you have a bill ( phone, cable, internet etc ) or drivers license that shows your dad's place ?

If you didn't change your address with the school, why bother contacting them at all? They'll have no record of you at your dad's place unless you told them you were living there, which you say you didn't.
You need a bill of some kind. Otherwise, tell your dad to ask a lawyer about having no proof of you living there.

thanks for the replies. I do have a driver's license that shows the real address, but it was issued on June 1st, 2011. I don't have any paper bills, all online with the exception of my Visa which I only got in late 2011.
The reason I'm trying my school is because my dad said a document that shows my old address could still work. I think this is because my other legal guardian had already moved out the house before that time, so even if my address did not change, it would prove that I was living with my dad (if that makes sense)

Drivers license, medi-care or other government agencies. Sign an affidavit?? not sure if that would work.

So why wouldn't this work?

I don't know, my thinking was that it should be sufficient but my dad says that he needs proof I was living with him from the start of the period, otherwise I could have just moved in with him in 2011

Does it need to be an official institution? Any other mail/items shipped to your new address you may have around? If you had something shipped from an online retailer maybe there is a record of the order?

ya I think it has to be official lol. I order stuff online like every month but I don't think they will count that. And I don't keep the packages either lol

This is really something that you need to talk to whoever is asking for the proof about. Only they can tell you exactly what they are looking for here.

You should be able to print out a copy of one of your online bills.

the proof is for the CRA, they require proof of my living with my dad for that period in order for him to receive the child care benefit for me, because after he divorced they started giving it to my other legal guardian, my dad's ex-wife who is not my mother and has no claim to this benefit. My dad has given them bank statements and our apartment tenant contract (which has my name on it), but they did not accept it... so I need other ones... I will try my school and also my gym to see if they can give me a proof

What about a statement from your Dad's ex-wife stating that you lived with your dad and not her. That should work.

As frustrating as the CRA can be, they are generally reasonable enough that they will explain exactly what they are looking for. What you are doing right now is pretty much throwing stuff against the wall and hoping that it sticks. They know what they will accept and wont accept, so call them up and ask what they are looking for.

My dad already talked to them, and I think they just gave him a vague response("oh you can use this, that, etc.") which is why we're trying to brainstorm ideas. But I will probably call myself to be sure. Thanks

Lol maybe but I wouldn't put it past her to refuse.
