My daughters and myself do a lot of printing pages for course work. I do a lot of scanning. I am looking for a multipurpose printer or color laser. Ink is very expensive but I was told that Brother ink cartridges are larger and cheaper. Any advice which printer should i buy.

I have a Brother All-in-One printer that uses individual colour cartridges. I buy the generic ones from my local computer place for $5 each. It is perfectly adequate for my needs, but the prints don't come out as nice as my old HP printer. That HP printer's ink was $150 for the jumbo black and colour cartridges combined, so I'm not missing it!

If you check the specs of each model, it should tell you what kind of replacement ink it takes. You can use generics on a Brother printer unlike some other companies that have chips in their ink cartridges. If you don't have a local source, you can always check online.

A lot of people only see that initial cost of the printer, they never consider the cost of the ink, which can be pretty substantial over the life of the printer.

+1 for brother. I had an old MFC, and I bought 48 ink cartridges off ebay for $50...I still have some 2 years later (printer just died). Replaced with a Brother MFC-J430W from the stooples deal. Bought 10 cartridges for $15 on ebay.

I own a Kodak all in one and Kodak is one of the cheapest inks to buy at retail. However buy your ink online from the Chinese sellers on EBay, you will save a ton of $$$
