Few years old Corolla. I was about to buy this car but the sales guy (who is also the sales manager) was the most complete arrogant pushiest rudest ***** Ive ever met.
1) Car was stolen and bought out by insurance.
2) Dealer got car from auction (but they lied saying they bought it from a Mazda dealership), and they swaped the vin
3) Dealer selling car at the price of clean title
4) Carfax shows 6 insurance renewals within 3 years. I asked and they lied said it was auto renewals. Since when does insurance auto renew every 4 or 5 months?
5) $10 insurance claim in body shop. Guy had no answer.
And he goes to me
"We answered your questions, we took the time to get you financed, we're getting lots of calls on it, now its time to make a decision. A nice way to put it either take it or get out." I was dumb and made the mistake of not walking out this second.
When i got back from testing it, he said that another guy was there asking about the car and if i dont take it on the spot, he will take it....hes coming back at 6pm tonight which was 1hr! I TOTALLY WASNT EXPECTING THIS! He was forcing me to make a decision right on the spot. I ended up in the finance mgrs office and it was like 5mins till close, everything was done and set up I just had to sign, they said I had to make a decision, they wouldnt even let me decide in the morning so I told him
Me: No
Him: Why?
Me: Cause of the swapped vin, something doesnt add up.
Him: It doesnt matter, the car still has an active status.
Him: "Well then its really unfortunate you had to waste everyones time" what kind of ***** says such a vulgar thing to a customer?
The whole story of the other buyer was a lie! Because they closed at six when i left! So there was no guy to come back for the car! he flat out pulled a fast one on me!!!!

Never buy a car when you have a doubt. Too many cars on the market....
As soon as someone puts pressure on me for any purchase, I say bye bye.
They won't stop making the product and a better deal will come up as soon as tomorrow..

3). He was using high-pressure sales tactics on you. Just a sign to walk away and look for a legit car.

Did you just sit there and take it from him or did you argue back? Post the name of the salesman and the name of the dealership for everyone to see. As far as I know, VIN swaps are illegal.

I understand the high pressure sales tactics but lashing out with rude comments and lying to your customers? Thats not acceptable at all, no excuses for that.

This happened a couple weeks ago and it was on a Friday after work, I was in no mood to argue with a d0uchebag like him. I could have but he was not worth getting stressed out and worked up over. Low class, disrespectful, bottom of the barrel coniving conartist.

Checkered flag auto sales what a nice name, fits their behaviour perfectly.
Dealer with checkered history, checkered history cars, staff with checkered tactics. I would have walked away as soon as I hear the 1st lie.

How do you know the vin was swapped out? Did the vin on the dash and firewall didn't match? Or the vin on the car didn't match the ownership?

Just be thankful you walked, the grief you would have lived with knowing something was shady and getting coerced into buying count yourself lucky.

In before the 1-Post, new account reply (we'll say in bad english as well) about how this is all a lie & how awesome this dealer is IRL.
These places are all the same – Buy written off, out of province cars on the cheap, get them fixed up & resell them to you.
Edit - Wait a tic, is this in Calgary? There's a Checkered Flag there (or at least there was)...
EDIT #2 - Found your BEIGE CAMRY. rofl http://www.checkeredflagautosales.ca/used/2000-Toyota-Camry-Calgary-AB/dcm/brochure/id2449182?seo

If I were you I would go and report this to the authorities... I'm not familiar with Alberta and stuff, but I know in Ontario theres things like the UCDA, the BBB, OMVIC, corporations like that, that protect consumers and their rights regarding used car sales.

I think the OP meant that he was shown a carproof report from a similar car (i.e. different VIN) to make it look like the car he was interested in was "clean" . The carproof from the actual car (i.e correct VIN) showed that it was a "theft recovery".

Lol someone should use their GMail google voice phone, and prank call these fools and keep bugging them about their "so called clean" Camry. I think I will tomorrow lmaooo!
I'm sure that if at least 5 people did that, they would finally realize that what they're doing is wrong and would just sell the car for scrap metal.

Firstly you didn't even state what vin didn't match. Obviously the vin matches with the ownership otherwise how can they sell the car. Are you talking about body panels that aren't matching the vin? If so it could just be due to accidents.

how do you detect a switched VIN?
there is a vin number on the dash and usually on the firewall on the car, some even have a vin number in the rear of the chassis.
so if any of these numbers are not identical then it was switched.

I think only if you build a new car from car parts you can be issued a new VIN, otherwise I don't know of any way existing car can get a new VIN legally. That would defeat the purpose of a VIN.

Never buy a car with a swapped vin period. It only means problems. Yes sales people are pushy if he was being an @ss you should have reported him not just the management but who ever owns the the used lot, go to them and say the guy was being an @ssclown and say the management the owner has set up sucks. Try and get a bunch of people to do this consistently.
