seems liked a flawed study. new york was 15th probably because its ALWAYS busy

vancouver was 2nd probably because its never busy except rush hour

Meh, it's probably the choke points I.e. the bridges
To give an example, it takes an hr to get to work for me during normal traffic. No traffic, it takes me 15 min.

Vancouver can try to be green all they want but as long as there is not decent public transport south of the Fraser River, cars will keep heading into the city.

yeah Vancouver is all about the peak hours. During non rush hours, it takes me about 1.5 minutes to drive out of downtown, over the bridge. In traffic and rush hour, its about 12-15 minutes. You basically hit like 6 lights going down nelson in traffic but if theres no cars, you can sweep all the way through in 1 go. Its the green mile

Luckily I live a 5 minute bike ride from work, so regardless of traffic, its always a 5 minute ride... everyday :)

Van is always busy, shops open til past midnight on weekdays and people are out having coffee or buying shoes 2 am any day of the week.

Its also a geographic mess here. Going from the Valley to the airport is a trip to Hades. Not only is it a long way distance wise, it's also twisty turny roads, millions of stop lights, construction EVERYWHERE and fender benders clogging up the road. This city was not designed by the planners decades ago to handle to volume, and they've yet to catch up.

Yup pretty much compares downtimes to rush hour commutes and are also based off GPS usage.

Mind you I'm surprised Ottawa is up there but not Montreal

Going from anywhere in the GVRD to the airport is a trip to Hades. I am going out this summer and when comong back, we have to get a flight at 10:30 AM...so I gotta be there before 9 to turn in the vehicle and go through check in and all the rest (4 adults and 2 kids). I am dreading the drive from Langley. I am sure it will be a couple hours at least.
I only go back to Vancouver to visit relatives now but I cannot remember a visit where traffic was not a problem. Even on the weekends. I just love the folks and thier 2 friends who are driving in the HOV lane at 70 Km/hr and traffic is whizzing by on the left, you can't even get past them.
Growing up there was great bit going back is a nightmare. Too many cars, not enough bridges.

The authors of the report were warned not to even try to drive in Montreal so they just skipped it entirely.
Ottawa got a bad report just because drivers there are idiots. It is a Government town so everyone plays by their interpertation of the rules. Not by the rules but how they "feel" about the rules. Not by the laws of the road but how they "understand" how they should apply to themselves.

I thought Toronto was the most congested city in NA now. Wasn't there a report last year that said we beat out LA in terms of traffic times?

Traffic time could just mean you guys in TO are traveling greater distance.

Where did you see that? It's not written anywhere in the article :o Well wouldn't that put Montreal in a class of its own?

IMO congestion is only part of the story, especially the way the numbers are crunched in this report. We're talking downtime vs rush hour and like some people said, in some cities there's always people on the streets so the gap might be smaller and less representative.

Pfft. Not a true North American study. Mexico City isn't even in the top 10. Should at least be in the top 5.

Ease up Uber_, my tongue was in my cheek.
Although of all the places on the globe I have driven, Montreal does rank up there as a crappy place to drive.

Shittiest drivers in the continent as well. I have been hit so many times that it is just insane. The Christmas basket I get from the autobody shop is a testament to how bad the drivers are here and the fact that I see my injury lawyer more often than my dentist makes me pretty paranoid to drive here.

Definitely agree  Crappy roads paired with crappy drivers makes for a fun experience ;)
