Hey guys, I am buying an item from China, one of those chinese stores, and the value is $210.
I am shipping via UPS 3-5days, and was wondering what are the chances of me paying import tax, and if so how much?
Also, how much brokerage fees can I expect?

coming through UPS it is going to hurt. From memory they have some brokerage fee depending on value and what not. The fee is explained as UPS paying for your duties when it crosses and then charging it to you and a fee. Last time i had a $190 item shipped from the USA to here and when it came, i had to pay $8X (can't remember the exact number as this is many years ago) in total. Just a rough FYI

It depends on what the item is, and where it is made

Depends on which UPS service was used, but here is the fee schedule:

If UPS does charge you it's outrageous brokerage fee, you can get it waived by clearing your item through customs yourself. Just get the paperwork from UPS and go down to your local customs office. Just need to decide if doing this would take less time than icing up at the border or not.

I'd estimate between 40% to 50% of the value of the item for UPS brokerage fees, so $100 easily...

Hey guys sorry to bump an old thread but what about DHL?
It is a $209.99 tablet with $30 shipping with DHL.
I can either get it shipped to my house or to the border (I'm 45mins away)

What the hell are you talking about? What border? The border between Canada and China? (It's called the Pacific Ocean and last time I looked at a map it was a bit more than 45 minutes' drive from Toronto.)
Surely you don't think that you can pick up an item coming from China at the American border . . . do you?
PS: Buying a tablet direct from any vendor in China is almost certain to be a SCAM. Ebay's discussion forums are full of laments from people who've been screwed-over by being sent faulty or fake tablets, then when they send it back for a refund they never, ever hear from the seller again, and they're out hundreds of dollars.
