View Full Version : Do going through a proxy on a cellphone make it even slower?

When I used one on my desktop I'd find the latency unbearable. Since the latency is already high on a mobile device would adding a proxy make it even worse? I'm considering using a cheap service and setting up a proxy for cheap data.

Yes, but on how much of a difference you'll experience may vary.
Your basically rerouting traffic an extra step so extra latency will be inevitable.
For example on my data plan, I average around 150ms but with a close proximity VPN I average 400ms.

How will a proxy reduce your data?
You are still pumping hte same amount of data over the cellular network. You're just routing it through someone else's servers
What's the point? Privacy?
