:mad: just received an email from B(H)ell for land line telephone bill. Yes, as usual ..without any advanced notifications from B(H)ell, there is an increase of $2.77 for monthly basic telephone charges. If I remembered, 6 months more or less ago, B(H)ell did an increase of same amount. Very NICE!! :evil: then another $ grabbing in the name of environmental cause, there was the $2 charge imposed for paper billing if a subscriber do not opt for e-billing.
Yes!! B(H)ell will be the loser from its loyal subscribers like myself. Time to consider options.

Bhell has a stop sell on Teksavvy landlines. TSI isn't selling service at this time. Ditch Bhell go cellular or switch to VOIP. There are tons of Cellular services now cheaper then a Bhell landline.

I switched to Teksavvy as well. Somewhere around $10 less per month for exactly the same services and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. The savings will add up over the years.

Damn Bhell!! I tried and unable to port over to Teksavvy's land line home phone services as Bhell issued 'stop sell' for its wholesalers. Yes, I rather give my monies to its wholesalers = lesser 'profits' for Bhell for same services. To add, Bhell's stop-sell should be 'illegal'. Any further suggestion is welcome.

Create an account on freephoneline.ca, pay the $50 for the SIP config. Buy a Linksys ATA, set up the config, plug in your current phone, and you're done. If the sound is a bit choppy you may have to get a router that can be reflashed with DDWRT so you can set up QOS to prioritize voice traffic. No more monthly phone bills, and free calling to most of Canada. I've been with them for 4 years now, no problems.

Hmm, already a thread about this Bell price increase: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/did-bell-raise-home-phone-rates-1087008/2/
My suggestion:
Why the hell are you paying for home phone?
Home phone is FREE. I've had free home phone for 5 months now.
Using freephoneline.ca, you use your home phone like regularly (not a computer with a headset) and you get all these features:
- a local Canadian phone number;
- unlimited Canada calling;
- unlimited incoming calls;
- 3-way calling;
- call-forwarding;
- voicemail;
- voicemail to email;
- caller ID
No monthly fee, no monthly bill.
Signup at freephoneline.ca and pick a Canadian phone number;
Purchase an "ATA Adapter" at CanadaComputers (http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?cPath=27_1066_1068) (or other compu store) so you can connect your home phone to your internet modem (costs about $70);
In your freephoneline.ca account, purchase the $50/setup for your phone number. This will give you the settings to plug into your ATA adapter.
Done! Never pay for home phone again.
Note:
- the $50 fee is for life, not every time you move;
- call quality is awesome;
- you call through your home phone like regularly, not through a computer headset;
- you don't need a computer to use the phone (that's the point of the ATA adapter);
- can add money for long-distance at $0.02/$0.03 per minute;
Seriously though, stop paying for home phone. You could be saving $30/month.

Still have to pay extra charges for the internet connection to the house (dry-loop for land phone line) depending on DSL speed or access point(?) if I port-out. I do not subscribe to cable internet due to its limitations and $ for unnecessary services. Freephoneline.ca is like VOIP which I hated to setup and the 911 service is different.

Weird since right on they're website you can see this:
* Plus a $4.95 monthly Essential Services fee (911 and Network)

Would this work? Linksys PAP2 NA VOIP SIP ATA Phone Adapter (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Linksys-PAP2-NA-VOIP-SIP-ATA-Phone-Adapter-pap2-NEW-/370498896944?pt=US_VoIP_Phone_Adapters&hash=item5643748430) - It's $30 with shipping.
The bf wants to have a home phone when we move in the fall but I really don't want to pay for it.... however $30 for the adapter & $50 for the service would be fine if that's the only costs ever!
So it's $5 a month for 911 service as well? I will have a dry loop from Bell FIBE internet so no cost there I hope!

You can sign up with voip,ms and use E911. I've been using Voip.ms for about 10 months already and works great. Takes a little time to tinker though until it is perfect.

It should work as I bought an linksys pap2 from ebay for even less. Any pap2 from China is a knockoff though and they come with really junky power adapters, so it's best to get a quality replacement. I have spare 12 volt adapters so it was no problem for me.
I don't see why people are concerned with 911 service. Any cellphone even ones with no sim card can dial 911.
