Hey all, I'm interested in applying to the DAP program at UBC. However I have a few questions regarding accounting education. I've had very limited experience in accounting courses during my undergraduate degree, like maybe 2 courses, and I always found it interesting. My question is there a possibility I can become a CA after completing that program at UBC, or do CAs need an undergraduate degree in an accounting related discipline? Also is there a program like the DAP somewhere in Toronto? The DAP seems to satisfy a lot of core course requirements in a year and I was hoping that there's a program like that closer to home.

I'm pretty sure the DAP is fine for CA purposes. I have a family friend who took that route, and he is working towards a CA now.
I also have a cousin who is pursuing her CMA using a BA in International Relations from UBC. I believe she took the accounting courses elsewhere.

How long did it take him to get to that route, from the beginning of the DAP to now?

Hey, I've been through DAP and I had no accounting experience when I started either. I actually know a few people that had non accounting backgrounds (BSc/BA) that got into CA firms so yes, it is possible. If you want more info, I've written a bit about my experiences in the DAP program on my blog (http://polymathaspirations.blogspot.com/2012/09/ubc-diploma-in-accounting-program-dap.html).
